School breakfast is an essential strategy to combat childhood hunger with over 36,000 students across the district served more than 6.6 million breakfast meals during the 2024-2025 school year. Higher academic achievement, improved attendance, and decreased disciplinary issues are all associated with school breakfast. That’s why I support #HearTheCrunch @DCHunger

The number of full-service grocery stores in D.C. rose from 76 to 80 this year. Yet Wards 7 and 8 have only seven stores between them, while Ward 3 alone has 17. The new report breaks down the data and what these disparities mean for families. dchunger.org/wp-content/upl…

141,000 DC residents rely on SNAP and 12,500 rely on WIC to put food on the table each month. We are moving forward to ensure we take care of DC residents by authorizing the use of local funds for November payments. We were hopeful it wouldn't come this. We need the federal government to reopen as soon as possible.

“If we take away that 10% allotment through Give SNAP a Raise, now we're pushing people further back into poverty and into hunger, and what we will see shortly is we will see an increase of food insecurity," said @DCHunger's LaMonika Jones. wjla.com/newsletter-dai…
