⚠️Areas of Blowing Dust This Afternoon/Evening
Strong northwest winds gusting to 35 and 45 mph will continue to produce blowing dust through the region. In very localized areas, visibility may fall between 1 and 2 miles, and may even fall to one half mile in open farm fields.

A boil advisory is in effect for the residences along Hinshaw Street and Barton Drive in Arnolds Park until further notice.

FROST ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO 8 AM CDT FRIDAY
Temperatures as low as 30° will result in frost formation.
Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

90 years ago today a devastating tornado tore through NW Iowa including parts of Dickinson County. The twister claimed 4 lives, injured many more, and damaged or destroyed 40+ farms, causing considerable property and livestock losses.

We're already seeing narrow corridors of blowing dust from farm fields in satellite imagery.
If driving, your visibility could drop quickly if you encounter one of these areas.

It's not too frequently we see @NWSSPC issue a "critical" fire weather forecast for the Tri-State area.
However, that is the case for Saturday. High winds >40 mph, along with humidity less than 20% will lead to extreme fire spread potential.

Elevated to critical fire danger continues through the weekend. The most dangerous conditions will be on Saturday when rapid fire spread is likely. However, with the very dry grass conditions around the region, caution should be taken every day to avoid sparking a fire.
