This is a book about Jesus Christ. Those who say it isn’t have not read it. It was named by the Library of Congress as one of the most influential books in American history. It has changed millions of lives around the world for the better. Read it and come closer to Christ.

@ATrueMillennial Well done! Bright spot in my world today. You also picked my favorite talk from General Conference. If we could vote for apostles, Elder Brown would get my vote

I gave Elder Brown's 🔥 #GeneralConference talk the Jamaican spiritual music vibes it needed 😁 "If you know, you know, and I'm telling you I know!"

Podcaster Steve Bannon suggested yesterday that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fosters an environment that leads to violence. He said there’s something wrong with the Church and that the Church should address it. This is a serious charge, so I looked into it:

I’ve been in a Sunday school class like yours and it is not just torture, but not following the handbook. We have a come follow me teacher now that is not very deep in the scriptures and not a long time member so he sticks to the manual word for word. It has been one of the best experiences. The teacher is supposed to be leading a discussion (read the handbook) and not just provide a lecture. The handbook is clear. Great you provided feedback to the SS President, but is time to go to the bishop. I assume the bishop doesn’t attend SS. If you don’t want to talk to him face to face about it, write an email to him. You are in No Way violating your temple covenants by saying the SS teacher is not following the handbook. If you are referring to not speaking ill of the Lord’s anointed, that is referring to trash talking about Bishops, Stake Presidents, GA’s etc. It isn’t about an ego-centric SS teacher

Okay. I have a small problem. Hear me out. I despise going to Sunday school. Not Sunday school in general - our ward Sunday school specifically. I have wrestled and wrestled with it. Because if I talk about it, I break my temple vows. My eyes cross listening to our Gospel Doctrine teacher - plus if I raise my hand, he pretends I'm not there. (Every time.) He shows a power point presentation every week - and no discussion is going to derail what he's going to say - the class is about him and his thoughts. Period. My husband is in Primary. Today, a dear friend from another ward promised to sit with me, (a doctor and dedicated scriptorian), who studies more than I do. So I said, okay...I'll go. I went to Sunday School, and my friend didn't show up - I'm not upset at him, he texted and said, sorry, 'I forgot I had to pick my grandson up at the airport.' (I can relate to doing stuff like that.) So there I was today. 40 minutes went by while I endured the power point presentation that had nothing to do with any real doctrine and while he brought up a bunch of esoteric points like the "hill Cumorah was fully lit up when the witnesses saw it," and "Hagoth landed in San Diego." (Completely serious.) I was looking at the floor by now and noticing how freakishly long a minute has become. Feel sorry for me yet? Finally, one sister who nobody knew because she was visiting from out of state raised her hand and said 'sometimes "facts" are great but shouldn't we be discussing doctrine?' The stranger can do that - the ward member makes enemies with all the wowed-by-the-power-point-boomers if they do that...after all 'hE wAs a sEminArY TeAchEr.' Then another sister made an actual doctrinal comment and I jumped in with a follow up. When I raised my hand to speak, he saw me and ignored it, so today - I said it anyway. First time I've ever done that. And today I went and found someone in the Sunday School presidency and offered my feedback. I was diplomatic, I simply said it would be nice to have a variety of people teach gospel doctrine because different people need different styles and I would really like to have a teacher who values gospel discussion. He responded how short-staffed they were, and that the stake was grabbing everyone. But that he understood. So I'm stuck with this for the time being. What would you do? (I'm in YW on Sundays and Wednesdays.)
