@hankgreen I would loveeee to see data, not to be morbid but I bet it’s pretty cool (and will be cooler when you can also show recovery)

Editorial in Current Psychiatry suggests that "the deactivation of the default mode network by excessive use of social media may explain the mental health decline in youth."
I show in this blog post why this claim makes no sense.

I had to abandon or redesign 2-3 projects in my PhD bc the code I wanted to use was so inaccessible to me as a molecular biologist despite the authors making it available on github
Curious to know what code others would try if they didn’t have to spend hours navigating setup?
Ontologic@ontologic_
Sparked by a shared frustration with #softwaredevelopment infrastructure in #neuroscience, our co-founders @neurd_ , @dmosdallas, @elibpollock, & @dcosine started Ontologic. 1st on the agenda: make researcher generated code accessible, interoperable, & reproducible #OpenScience

@TanyaJMcc @culturaltutor Your work sounds super cool! Do you have a Twitter thread summary of your dissertation? I'd love to learn more but can't promise I have time to digest what's probably a very dense and thoughtful academic paper 😅

@culturaltutor Skeuos can also be aspirational-they replace higher-valued goods, usuall, in lesser materials. They could be ceramic vessels imitating silver ones, or even tile stickers imitating more-costly stone ones. Skeuos tell you what people deem worthy of emulation. 3/

@jefielding @stevenbward Is there any way you can describe what happened more specifically? I’m a founder currently raising money and would hate for angels who supported us early to feel this way. Any terms a founder can look out for to prevent this happening? TIA!
English

@stevenbward Many angels can’t maintain pro-rata, don’t have the cash. Normal dilution I get, a last minute cram down that I didn’t know about, I don’t get 😤

@martinmbauer (Students will also hate ^ this sometimes but if the question is a legitimate challenge, ie, not straightforward or has multiple answers, they get into it and it’s a super effective teaching technique)
English

@martinmbauer In the context of a college/grad course? It would feel super infantilizing. Your students are adults and chose freely to go to lecture. If the goal is discussion, I’ve had great results as a student & TA with 2-5m breaks to discuss a challenge question on what was just introduced

Real talk. Say what you want about our unions’ demands but @UofCalifornia showed up an hour late to the bargaining table today after fully canceling bargaining sessions yesterday. When they say they are bargaining in good faith, that’s a *bold face lie*
