There was plenty of excitement in the air this weekend, with soccer fans glued to the big final, but for a handful of people we support, the soundtrack of the day came from the 🎶 Vancouver Folk Music Festival. From live performances and great food to sunshine, good company, and dancing, it was a chance to soak up one of Vancouver's favourite summer traditions. Did you know DDA's Day Program clients have gloriously green thumbs? 🌱🌿🌼 This week, Frank, Indra, Cindy, Centainne, and KP rolled up their sleeves and got to work tending the garden plots at Brewer's Park in Vancouver. Judging by the results, all that hard work - and maybe a little help from Thursday's rain - paid off beautifully! Fantastic work, everyone. This is Josiah. He loves competing in sports, especially softball, curling, and Bocce! Got bat and ball? ⚾️ Got curling rocks? 🥌 Got a great attitude and loves to help his teammates? ✅and ✅ Josiah was one of the many wonderful participants in our PSA, “What We’re Like,” and was an instrumental part of the team in making it a success! He likes to win, but if he doesn’t, he loves knowing he tried his best. We are proud of Josiah and his amazing enthusiasm for sports. Inclusion Canada has been consistent in calling for a more adequate Canada Disability Benefit that truly lifts people above the poverty line so they can live in dignity. • No clawbacks — provinces/insurers shouldn’t deduct it from existing supports. • Easy access — automatic, barrier-free enrollment with clear, simple eligibility. • Co-design and transparency — ongoing input from people with disabilities and families along with disability groups like ours who have expertise to share. • The benefit must be increased to live up to its promise of lifting people with a disability out of poverty. DDA residents and staff were out in full force, offering their support to @CANMNT_Official and @CanadaSoccerEN. They even braved the insanely busy pedestrian-only Granville strip! The only question now is, who do we cheer for? Who are YOU cheering for?? ⚽️⚽️
