Kim Se-ui faces pre-arrest interrogation today over alleged defamation of #KimSooHyun, AI-manipulated claims involving late #KimSaeRon. According to reports on Star News; Kim Se-ui, the head of controversial YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute (Gaseyeon), is set to undergo a pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review hearing) at the Seoul Central District Court on May 26 over multiple allegations linked to actor Kim Soo-hyun and the late actress Kim Sae-ron. Kim Se-ui has been accused of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes, including charges related to filming and distributing material using cameras, along with defamation allegations. The charges stem from claims broadcast through the Garo Sero Institute YouTube channel, where Kim Se-ui allegedly spread false information stating that Kim Sae-ron dated Kim Soo-hyun while she was still a minor. He also reportedly claimed that pressure from Kim Soo-hyun’s side regarding debt repayment contributed to the actress’ death. Additionally, Kim Se-ui is accused of using artificial intelligence technology to manipulate Kim Sae-ron’s voice and fabricate statements attributed to her. One of the alleged fabricated claims stated that she “had sexual intercourse with Kim Soo-hyun for the first time during the winter break of her second year of middle school.” The court’s decision following the warrant review hearing will determine whether Kim Se-ui will be formally arrested as investigations into the case continue. Witch Hat Atelier director Ayumu Watanabe on the challenges behind the anime adaptation: “I thought, ‘This would definitely be incredibly difficult to turn into anime. So when the adaptation offer actually came to me, my reaction was, ‘What a reckless undertaking.’” The director explained that the manga's dense artwork and intricate worldbuilding made simplifying the visuals almost impossible without losing the identity of the original work. “One of the series’ greatest strengths is that level of detail,” he said. “As a fan myself, I didn’t want to see that reduced just because it became animation.” Watanabe further described the anime as a major challenge for the staff, particularly due to the sheer amount of linework and movement required in every scene. “In anime production, there’s usually a tendency to settle on ‘this is enough detail,’ but for this project, we decided to throw out that way of thinking. That meant drawing far more and demanding both higher quality and quantity from the staff. It was a huge challenge.”
