CCTV is NOT the same as facial recognition technology. CCTV records what happens. Facial recognition identifies who is in that footage, where and when - automatically, at scale, and often without consent. It turns passive surveillance into active tracking. Police claim images are deleted, but that relies on trust in systems we can’t easily verify. Once this infrastructure exists, it’s hard to limit how it’s used.

Deze motie om met een tijdpad te komen voor het herenigen met hun gezin van de 3500 (!) kinderen die uit huis zijn geplaatst bij gedupeerde toeslagenouders heeft het gisteren helaas niet gehaald omdat behalve de coalitie ook de SGP, CU en JA21 tegen stemden.👇

I grew up in a house where both of my parents smoked, in an era where people smoked, everywhere, and I also had asthma. Unsurprisingly, I've never smoked & don't like being around smokers. Smoking is, overall, bad for your health and the health of those around you. Pubs and restaurants and hotels became much more pleasant places to be after the smoking ban was brought in. For non-smokers at least. Having said all of that, I'm pretty uncomfortable about seeing government bringing in bans like this. Younger generations have, by and large, made their own decisions about smoking (and drinking) and, vaping aside, smoking was dying out pretty naturally, so a statutory ban seems unnecessary. It might even be counterproductive and make young people want to smoke even more. And the big concern I have is if we set a precedent with smoking, what will the next thing be that the Big State wants to ban? It might be something that's a lot more valuable to us than smoking.

Russia just gave Germany less than 2 weeks notice. Germany stopped buying Russian oil in 2022 and replaced it with Kazakh oil. The oil still travels through a Russian pipeline so Russia still decides if it moves. On May 1 it will not. The refinery receiving that oil supplies 90% of the petrol, kerosene and heating fuel for Berlin, its airport and the surrounding region. A full halt cuts 17% of what it processes overnight. The last time this refinery lost its main supply it dropped to 50-60% capacity and Berlin faced fuel shortages within weeks. The only alternative route is through Poland's port of Gdansk. Poland is already using that capacity for its own refinery. With the Hormuz closed there is no surplus supply sitting anywhere in Europe ready to fill a gap this size. Germany spent four years saying it had ended its dependence on Russian energy. The oil it replaced it with has travelled through a Russian pipeline every day since 2022. Russia has just shown who really owns that oil. Follow me to stay informed

Moet je eens kijken. Onze verplichte pensioenfondsen bungelen helemaal onderaan. Verplicht deelnemen in het slechtst renderende pensioenfonds. Je verzint het niet.

Na maanden politiek theater ligt er ineens 90 miljard klaar als het om oorlog gaat klotst het geld tegen de plinten. Ondertussen zitten burgers in een soort energielockdown met torenhoge rekeningen en inflatie die nergens stopt. Prioriteiten lijken glashelder: voor dit is altijd geld, de rest zoekt het maar uit.

@EenVandaag fietsen helemaal geen optie is. Ook OV is lang niet altijd levensvatbare optie & hele hoop mensen die dichtbij genoeg wonen gaan al met de fiets. Maar joh, pak de fiets, dan merk je niets v die hoge benzineprijzen. Ipv ervoor te pleiten dat men echte probleem aanpakt & die (..)
