Haha, well said, and spot on. Being paid like that from such an early age definitely messed with the sense of money. But it also carved the path for my future and gave me the skills I have today. It turned me into a "passion worker" meaning the digits on my paycheck matter less than the satisfaction I get from creating something unique. It's a gift and a curse and tbh most of the time it feels more like a curse lol

@deadtale Yeah, good times, people like you that learned to code young back in the day had so many opportunities, I only got my first paid job at around 18. So getting paid a bunch of cash with only 14 was probably like a real world version of Monopoly but with real money haha.

About 3 months ago this was just a prototype. Now it's getting closer to my vision. Been one hell of a ride, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy every second of it. #indiedev #gamedev #indiegame #devlog

I've been working like crazy lately, making the procedural maps even better. All POIs are now connected with paths and roads, and map sizes range from small areas to huge maps that almost feel open-world, with close to 1000 spawned enemies and 20–30 POIs to explore in a single map. I keep feeling like I should push the playtest already, but then it's always "I just need to fix this one little thing" and suddenly that turns into a domino effect of 100 QoL improvements that make the experience way better. Then I pull back and go "Man this just became 10x more fun. Glad I didn't push the playtest yet"... and then it repeats. So I've decided to make a final list this week, and once everything is checked off I'll push the playtest. I even made some of the Hunters so hardcore that I ended up creating a new Hunter variation: Alpha. When I build and test them, some of them bring pressure, and some of them bring absolute havoc. The havoc ones are Alphas, and they add a whole new angle to the gameplay.

Yea it's more of a Copenhagen thing tbh. Out here I've met very few people who really think or talk about Christiania, and most people don't even know they closed down "the infamous street" The funny thing is, that skateboarding pool was actually paid for by "the bad guys". This article from 1999, "Pushere forærede rampe til unge skatere" - roughly translated as "Pushers gave a skateboarding ramp to young skaters" explains it. I was in my early teens back then, but I was really into skateboarding ramps and pools so I remember my friends and I talked about it. jyllands-posten.dk/indland/ECE325…

@deadtale Yeah I heard is a very divisive place in Denmark society I guess. I will read more about the current changes but when I went in 2009, on its birthday was really special. Music, food, all kinds of people gathering. Also that skateboarding pool was awesome, there was a Dj playing.

@ph4rosound 500K damn... and 8M even more daamn lol. My whole municipality has around 41k people, and I still catch myself cussing about too much traffic during rush hour. I can't even imagine how I'd handle being behind the wheel where you live lol

@deadtale Wow I though Copenhagen had at least 1M. We have one neighborhood in Rio called Copacabana which has approx 500 thousand. Rio has around 8M if you count the outskirts so yeah more people than in Denmark. If we put Sao Paulo into the mix, then is like half of Scandnavia :)

Don't worry too much about roles. Rifleman is the safe choice and has the same weapons as Commander. My usual advice for newcomers is to go Rifleman or Marksman for the first 50–100 hours. Once you get more familiar with the maps, try Demolition - 40mm and C4 are OP - or Observer, where you help the Commander. After 200–400 hours, when you know the maps like the back of your hand, you can start messing with Commander. What really ruins the game for other people is having a Commander who doesn't have a plan for the limited artillery. We had a server we played on for a year or two, and we required a minimum of 500 hours to play as Commander. As my buddy who hosted it said: "Better to have no Commander than a Commander without a plan" But again, that's my inner 3k-hour nerd talking lol. You should enjoy the game exactly how you like it. When I want to chill, I go Rifleman because there are no expectations from the team. You can just do your own thing, find the best positions, get the best angles, and just have fun.

@ph4rosound Nice. I bought it back in like 2018 or 2019, when there wasn't any onboarding tutorial, just a shooting range, then straight into the action. I'll have to check that tutorial out next time I load it up. How are you liking it so far?

@deadtale Oh that is cool, I'm into that demographics obviously. I have not played online yet but one thing I found extremely cool was the onboarding tutorials, showing you how to shoot etc... For more complicated games I find this really cool as some games expect you to jump on it.

Yea I know what you mean. I have so much new stuff to show off too, but making videos, especially ones with voiceover, takes a lot of time and energy. My own voiceover video took hours just to plan and record a 3-minute video, so I can't even imagine how much time and effort went into yours, especially with the quality you delivered

@deadtale Thanks, yeah definitely planning to do one soon, it just takes some time, but now it should take less and less and easier it would become. Yeah this was the whole idea initially, to show how I think about music in a game play context, how I figured influences what could fit etc

Yeah and the funny thing is, I can't even remember how I got it. Must have been through a friend or some kind of connection. But at 14, with a part-time job, I was making six times more per hour than my friends were making at their jobs. It was just a simple website and backend system with a pretty basic database. That's when I realized this was something I liked, something I was good at, and something that paid well. Now 25 years later, I'm still doing the same thing every day. Exactly, it's not about the tool, it's about the idea and what you make, not what you made it with.

Hehe I know, I was just joking. People usually associate Christiania with one thing, but most of us here know it's way more than that. It was a place where you could hang out, chill, and not be bothered. A place where you could be "different" without being judged, so it definitely had a cultural impact. There have always been mixed opinions about it, and I've always stayed pretty neutral. If you don't hurt anyone or threaten anyone, then you're fine in my book. I never had any bad experiences there, not even in my teens when we were all just experimenting with life. So I can only say good things about it, and your fascination with the area is definitely understandable.

@deadtale Haha, what I meant was I was really fascinated by Christiania itself though, never been to a place even remotely close to it in my life. Not even sure one exists really.

Yea everything feels massive compared to most of our cities in Europe. When I learned that New York City for example, has more people than we have in our entire country, the scale suddenly became real. Brasília for example, has 3 million people, while Copenhagen has around 670k. Even with that "small" amount I feel suffocated in the inner city, which is why I stay out here on the outskirts doing my own thing hehe

@deadtale Haha, that is a very good way to put it. Yeah tourist areas and the richer neighborhoods are usually pretty safe even though shit can still happens, but definitely there are some no go areas. Compared to European cities though, the city is massive.

I've learned that it's more about how you play the game than how skilled you are. Tbh I'd rather play with a newcomer who has a good attitude than an experienced player with a "me, me, me"-attitude any day. What I like about this game specifically is that most people are 30+, so they're not playing to impress anyone. They're playing after a long day at work and just want to relax with peers. You can do that in any game if you put yourself out there, but you get very different audiences and age groups in Fortnite than you do in Insurgency.

@deadtale That is awesome, it definitely sounds like my type of game then. Crazy I never played a game so long like this to make a lot of friends out of it, but a good friend of mine, plays only Fortnite and he met a whole community through that.

I'm looking forward to the next one. Like I mentioned earlier, you should definitely pursue this, because I think it sets you apart from many others in your field. It's not just about what we make, but how we present it and the feelings our work gives people. And this is something you're naturally good at, I'm definitely looking forward to more!

@deadtale Really glad it holds up on repeat watches, that's always the goal. And yeah, you nailed it, that one took way longer than I'd like to admit. Working on making the process more scalable though. Thanks for the encouragement, that really means a lot. More coming soon😃

lol well said. In the 90s and 00s, the mindset I experienced in Poland and Denmark felt very different so it felt like different worlds. Polish people often seemed harsher, but also more generous. Danish people were more soft-spoken, but also more reserved. Now it all feels a lot more blurred, and I feel like the differences blend more. But then again, age also changes the way you see people and the world, so maybe it is just my perspective that changed.

@deadtale Haha exactly, Rio calibrates your threat radar permanently. Poland sounds like it had its own version of character building, the kind you appreciate in hindsight but not necessarily miss. Sounds like growing up between two very different worlds gave you a unique perspective.

Haha I actually spotted even more on the second and third watch. Like I said, you did a great job making me want to see more. I would say you should make a lot more videos like that, but I do not doubt for a second how much time and energy went into it, so I know it is easier said than done 😄

@deadtale It needs to account for the unpredictable and decision trees instead of just playing on a fixed timeline. Yeah you definitely have an eye for visuals, you got details from my video most people wouldn't even after the hundred watch 😃.
