Dr Niamh O’Regan, Consultant Geriatrician @UHW_Waterford and Shanice Vallely, Senior Physiotherapist @MaterPhysio and HSCP Lead for the IHFD present now about the IHFD Orthogeriatric and Physiotherapy Networks. The networks bring together a community of specialties. The Orthogeriatric Network has over 80 members who are looking forward to what is possible, such as developing guidance and protocols and discussing the future of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment related standards. The Physiotherapy Network looks at things like the role of the physio, service provision and IHFD functional data fields. The IHFD has been reporting on early mobilisation since 2018, with Irish Hip Fracture Standard 7, which looks at early mobilisation, introduced in 2022. #HIPFEST2024

Highlights: 🚶‍♀️ Pamela Hickey, IHFD & MTA Assistant Audit Manager did a data dive on reasons for not mobilising 🏥 Mary Giles, Senior Physiotherapist in Letterkenny University Hospital shared a day-in-the-life of the service there 👨‍⚕️ Mr Terence Murphy gave a hip fracture masterclass on hip fracture surgical intervention and implant selection 📊 Shanice Vallely, IHFD HSCP Lead shared helpful abstract and poster presentation tips.
