Halsey stuns with blue hair, referencing her ‘Badlands’ era.

@austin_parker25 @everdeenbaby burdock and katniss are heavily indigenous coded but ofc a white mf would not understand

English

@dearanemoia @everdeenbaby They’re not whitewashed. None of the characters that have been casted as white has their race described in the book. At most, they have been referenced as having olive skin, which is purposefully ambiguous.
English

@dearanemoia @lesbianwiress sorry for hopping in but just wanted to say i agree. just based on my family's tribe, i definitely feel like they could've had her pass as half or a quarter indigineous in the og films and burdock as half if they wanted.
English

district 12 is when Only White People 😍 (mind u, seam people are indigenous)

Burdock. Asterid. Hattie Meeney. Mr. McCoy. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping – in theaters November 20, 2026.
English

@cthwflower it's giving "bakudeku is toxic but bkdk is good and a correct way to ship" 😭
English

@scranspam @goblinnadivane @LenorsDoves and that racial ambiguity is a problem too, i fear.
you either stop with all that indigenous coding (olive skin, black hair, braids, bow, hunting, singing, closeness with nature) and make them explicitly white, or actually hire some indigenous actors if you wanna play that game
English

@dearanemoia @goblinnadivane @LenorsDoves tbf suzanne said in an interview years ago (think it was like 2010/11) that neither katniss or gale were really intended to be biracial and she wasnt really thinking about race or ethnicity when she was writing them. although i was surprised at how pale jennifer was when cast
English

@cthwflower it’s actually insane bro. where is the olive skin and dark hair??
English

@earth2jaee @cukierkowe @kimichkis shouldn't have done that casting from the very beginning then. and people are allowed to complain about that too
English

@dearanemoia @cukierkowe @kimichkis It doesn’t matter whether or not the general public will remember what he looks like, the people casting are casting for continuity not book accuracy. That ship sailed already
English

@_silly_otter_ @peterfemmejay obviously they meant race-wise. white and blue-eyed. nothing like the difference between seam and town people
English

@dearanemoia @peterfemmejay I mean they really dont. Everything about their bone structure is completely different, very different face shapes, noses, and mouths. I don’t necessarily agree with the casting (burdock would have been better as a native american imo) but these people dont look alike
English

they should not look that similar that is against the whole point WHO IS THIS CASTING DIRECTOR????
Film Updates@FilmUpdates
Scot Greenan and Grace Ackary have been cast as Burdock and Asterid, Katniss Everdeen’s parents, in ‘THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING.’
English

@AmethystLunae @LenorsDoves how can i blame everything on americans (you're probably a white european, so basically the white american's cousin)
most people complaining are POC. because seam people are INDIGENOUS
English

@sbgradz @LenorsDoves then explain why poor ones (seam) have darker hair, eyes, skin and are indigenous coded, while a bit wealthier ones (town) are blonde and blue-eyed.
quickly
English

@LenorsDoves It was never about race, it was classism. Burdock was from the Seam (coal miners, poorest in the district) & Asterid was from the Merchant Section (shop owners, well-off families). Relationships between the 2 groups were frowned upon in District 12. That’s the “forbidden” part.
English

@junimodev @LenorsDoves They're not always, no. If you just look at America that might be true but looking at the rest of the world not so much.
Take eg Germany: the different classes are pretty mixed regarding ethnicities, same goes for most of europe.
Take it to Asia or Ozeania...same there
English

@hotgirltraumas making ALL their seam characters (canonically indigenous btw) white and all other characters white too but making their aggressive/cruel characters POC…. like ok. i see.
English

@goblinnadivane @LenorsDoves except seam people are indigenous, silly! since race and class are closely intertwined
