19-year-old LaVena Johnson, a US Army Private First Class, was found dead in her tent while stationed in Iraq in 2005. Her death was officially ruled a suicide. She had a broken nose, a black eye, loose teeth, burns from a corrosive chemical on her genital area, and a gunshot wound that many people felt did not fit suicide. There were also reports of bloody footprints outside her living quarters. Some later suspected the chemical burns were meant to destroy DNA evidence of a sexual assault. To this day, her family believes the US Department of Defense covered up what really happened
