I’m over the moon to be interviewed on my favorite podcast, The Splendid Table with Francis Lam! It’s a fun interview, plus we share my recipe for Cincinnati Chili from Midwestern Food, a perfect dish for a day like today. splendidtable.org/episode/2024/0…

@gilbertcruz what's up with the book review today? Only 4 reviews total and 1/2 the contents page is empty. Basically no ads. You're scaring me . . . please don't disappear . . .

I’m sure this dates me horribly but I recently saw Suzzy Roche at an ensemble concert and started playing Roches tunes. So much talent and charm. Does anybody remember this sister trio? images.app.goo.gl/WhVdq5CrbN9SSp…

Cover reveal day! Thrilled to share the jacket of my novel REDNECKS, busting out in May ‘24 from @StMartinsPress. Based on the 1921 Battle of Blair Mountain, when an army of 10,000 coal miners launched the largest labor uprising in American history: us.macmillan.com/books/97812503…

graphic design is a lot like being a chef except imagine bringing out the entree and hearing, "great start, but we have some notes" and "if we remove all these almonds will this be cheaper"

@JaneFriedman @JoniBCole I read this whole post thinking you had wrote it. I was like, I hadn't thought of Jane as a humor writer, but why not? We're all a little bit funny. (And very much enjoyed the post.)

Being up front about your quirks and weaknesses makes for powerful true stories. But overdoing the crazy for comic effect, at least in a personal narrative, can quickly read false and feel tiresome. @JoniBCole offers wisdom on humor: janefriedman.com/finding-the-fu…

@MoviesSilently I was recently obsessed with the look of these earlier Jello illustrations. If you want a little tour, check out my feed on instagram: instagram.com/debbiebernedes… I also own many of these cookbooklets, if you need any questions answered. :-)

@literaryeric I write "I think" constantly and then go back and edit it out. Including in emails. I assumed it's because I am a woman and was trained to be under-assertive/deferential/not bossy. But maybe it's just a thing.

Also, "I think" is rarely called for. Don't write, "I think we should meet Wednesday." Write, "We should meet Wednesday." We can tell you thought it because you just wrote it.

I am just an editor, in front of a writer, begging you to never use a dictionary definition in anything you write. Never, ever. As in, "Webster's defines leadership as...."

3 years ago, I had the idea for a book. And I sold that idea, and I wrote that dang book, and now I’m designing it. And the cover has been approved (!!) and it’s available for pre-order now! And, ahem, Bookshop.org has preorders too. Coming March '24 @UChicagoPress

This important book brought so many recipes (and the historical context for those recipes) to Western/English-speaking readers. These older, b&w, text-heavy cookbooks have such a different feel than the shiny toys of today’s cookbooks. Thoughts? #claudiaroden #cookbooks
