We have seen in the past few weeks a noticeable uptake in Assad-era generals arrested. While intelligence is certainly a factor, I think we are starting to see a government that is more confident in its ability to use muscle without fear of backlash 👇

#Syria: 13 years ago today, the Baniyas massacre began. It targeted 2 Sunni, anti-Assad, areas (Bayda & Ras Nabaa) in the countryside. It started with a Regime raid at dawn, which sparked a firefight with local Rebels. Regime brought reinforcements & shelled these areas before storming them, along with militiamen & armed residents from neighboring Alawite villages. What followed were over 48 hours of killings of residents & entire families, from executions to murders with knives.
