We are engaging with those most affected by stop and search across London to help inform our Stop and Search Charter, a co-produced agreement between the Met and the communities of London.

@MPSAndyBrittain Can't you just stop and search more people? Nobody carries a knife for protection. They carry a knife to stab someone. And there are clearly a lot of people walking around carrying a knife. Because they can.

Policing alone can’t fix this, a community wide response is required to support agencies involved in tackling this. I need community intel to help direct precise patrols and stop & search. Please help to stop knife crime. Please support officers who try so hard on a daily basis.

Horrified by incident last night in Croydon. Thanks @MPSCroydon, @airambulanceldn & @Ldn_Ambulance for the hard work, sadly despite all efforts a life was lost to knife crime.

We’ve seen some suggestions that Oxford Street was ‘closed down’ earlier which isn’t really an accurate reflection of today’s events. While a large group of protestors walked down the road, traffic and pedestrians were still able to get around. Officers were with the group throughout and the level of disruption was monitored closely. Some shops did decide to close their doors for a short time whilst the protest passed, but then re-opened and have carried on with their day’s trading.  The area has been packed with people and as you’d expect two days before Christmas. It’s still very busy with lots of shoppers and tourists who have largely been able to carry on as normal.
