@GabeBHiggins @Truthcoin XMR <> BTC atomic swap platforms via a repo clone went live about 2 years ago... Not a lot of liquidity though/buggy
English

While this is technically true, it's only true for those savvy enough and does not reflect reality. Meaning, nobody is using HTLCs in this way. There are no platforms or apps doing this by default.
Hopefully, that changes, but what doesn't seem to change is user behavior and the fact that the masses do not value privacy.

anti-privacy is a dead end
Because privacy on BTC is actually *unblockable*.
Imagine an extreme case:
* BTC is totally anti-private. Rampant accurate chainalysis. No private wallets.
* You can swap [USD for BTC] at your local drug store / supermarket / post office. Because it is so compliant.
* XMR is the only super-private coin, and has no liquidity. No exchanges support it anywhere.
* BTC & XMR still have HTLCs.
In that situation, cypherpunks would just use HTLCs to travel:
USD --> BTC --> XMR ---> BTC --> USD .
The BTC is effectively a "fiat onramp" for XMR.
So, to disable "privacy coins", you must disable all HTLCs in all cryptos. You must play cat-and-mouse to disable all of the "BTC-ness" until the blockchain just isn't there anymore.
So, everyone who thinks "we must appease the anti-private institutions for NGU" is totally wrong. They will never be appeased because BTC will always be private.
It is unfortunate that lawmakers do not understand blockchain privacy. Every blockchain transaction is public (and stored on every computer). So privacy-tech is part and parcel of the blockchain. Without privacy it does not exist.

It's the point where transparent blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) and opaque blockchains (Monero) diverge into two completely different asset classes 🔀 Alas, it's either staying private or welcoming institutional investors. So I guess no privacy features on Bitcoin? 🤔

@DelioPera @TheBlueMatt arxiv.org/abs/1904.05234 - this will happen on BTC when DEXs show up, more so if robust smart contracts can get deployed
English

@defiworkburner @TheBlueMatt I think what you're saying might be interesting, but I don't understand those words in that particular order.

MEVil (or centralizing MEV) is one of the biggest threats to bitcoin’s value, but it’s poorly understood. I wrote about what it is (and isn’t) and how developers and bitcoiners must consider it carefully if we want bitcoin to survive.

@storming0x probably by hring a security engineer in-house with an audit and sast process which makes a SC eng answer for vulns prior to a PR... like most tech companies do. easy stuff.
English

Ok , 🌶️ take here,
half of responses indicate a good SC dev should know about security.
how are devs suppose to get better at security without their jobs requiring it?
do devs join contests to test their skills periodically?
how do devs practice security?
disconnect much?

Smart contract dev knowledge poll: Assume each option accumulates the previous options topic as well. What do you think a roadmap for becoming a good smart contract dev should include? let me know if i missed something. p.s testing includes, unit, functional, fuzz, etc

What kind of a hooligan would write this 😢🥹

@austincampbell Maybe unintentionally, but it could solve burner attacker infra ie "Attack alert - source: IP 123.45.432, Host: Digital Ocean, Region: Europe2"... and that's about all you can do about it.
