Can the NHS be assured that in all hospitals, at all times of day, there is access to safe & effective decision making, thoracic USS & pleural procedures? Perhaps more investigation, deeper understanding and action is needed @BTSrespiratory @UKPleura

🧵 (7/?) Great survey showing the current state of play. More thoracoscopists, more day case procedures, interestingly slightly less thoracoscopy with increasing US guided pleural biopsy.
Is National pleural database the future?

UK Pleural Research Conference in Oxford on 4 & 5 July 2024.
There will be a dinner at St Hilda’s College on Thursday night. Accommodation is also available to book. We’re still encouraging abstract submission.
…It would be great to see as many of you as possible there. It will once again be a hybrid event with online attendance for those who can’t attend in person. Please do all this via the website at:pleura.org.uk/product/ukps-r…

ERJ: The TARGET trial was a multicentre randomised trial comparing PET-CT targeted pleural biopsy to standard CT-guided pleural biopsy for suspected pleural malignancy. The results do not support the practice of PET-CT to guide pleural biopsies. bit.ly/40HOY6p

Important study. Great data to guide the way we approach pleural procedures during pandemic #PRD2021
Bristol Academic Respiratory Unit@BristolARU
And here are those results; pleural procedures, including thoracentesis, chest drain insertion, LAT generated fewer aerosols than normal breathing. Total aerosol levels similar to background levels. Time to ditch full PPE for pleural procedures? #PRD2021 @UKPleura

Please only use A&E at the Northern General for genuine emergency care
The NHS Walk in Centre, Emergency Eye Centre, GP, pharmacy & NHS 111 provide care for non-emergency illnesses. A&E is also not the place for COVID-19 tests
Thank you for your support
