4. Unburdening or releasing the part. When a part is no longer of service, it can be retired, released to the elements, given a new job or a limited capacity
2. Working with a part. Feel towards the part by noticing your reactions to it. The IFS book (and key tenet) is called No Bad Parts because each part is doing its job. The job may no longer be serving you, or even causing you distress, but the part is not malicious.
You can tell that you’re working with a part when you are not feeling a “critical mass” of the core self, identified by the 8 c’s: calm, clarity, curiosity, compassion, confidence, courage, creativity, connection
- Firefighters are reactionary parts that jump in
when the borders are breached. They are also
protective parts but will protect the core
authentic self at any cost.
Parts work is comprised of 3 essential parts:
1. Identifying a part. IFS divides parts into Managers,
Firefighters and Exiles.
- Managers are typically protector parts - protecting
access to the core, authentic self
