Apostles were personally chosen by Christ (e.g., the 12, Paul on the Damascus road). 2.Witness to the resurrected Christ. Apostles had to see or be directly revealed the risen Lord so they could testify authoritatively. 3.Mission with foundational authority. They were sent to establish churches, confirm the gospel, and teach doctrine, often with signs and miracles to confirm their message. Because of this, someone claiming apostleship today usually doesn’t meet these biblical conditions. Modern Christian leaders might be pastors, prophets, or missionaries, but calling oneself an “apostle” in the New Testament sense would be theologically inaccurate.
