My favorite bar in the Loop — by far — is Monks Pub. It’s my favorite because it’s an actual bar, one with real bartenders and actual regulars. No one is there because it’s trendy. Monk’s has no river view and doesn’t make tourist itineraries. It’s all the better for it.

I have choked up twice on the mic that I can remember. On my daughter’s high school basketball senior night and tonight when I announced Sacha Washington out of the game at home for the last time.
