@HistoryBoomer @rksmythe Improvements in healthcare and trauma care have more to do with reducing automobile mortality from 9.6 to 9.3 than seat belts. Your mistake is not in what you said, it’s what you didn’t say.

@rksmythe And those cars were statistically much more dangerous. The houses were, on average, smaller and had far less stuff, even if your house was nice.

That 1951 car lacked three-point seat belts, airbags, crumple zones, head restraints, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, side-impact protection, and a collapsible steering column. Cars were death traps! Life expectancy in 1951 was 68 years. It's 79 years now. Those houses had lead-based paint, asbestos-containing materials, crappy insulation, limited electrical capacity, primitive plumbing, poor air sealing, and single-pane windows. They also lacked dishwashers, air conditioners, clothes dryers, freezers, and microwaves. Houses in the 1950s were far smaller and less comfortable than today's homes. Nostalgia for the 1950s is historically ignorant!

@UnklExpy The numbers say you're wrong. Younger generations are outearning what boomers made at the same age. House ownership is similar.

@HistoryBoomer In 1951 9.6 people per 1,000 died in car accidents. Today, that number is 9.3. Yes cars are safe, but people still drive like idiots. Safer cars resulted in less safe driving. People are dumber today. Maybe that’s what we’re nostalgic for.

@Gbajee @smerconish I must have missed it. When did MAS give Trump a free pass? But yes, anyone supporting Nazi ideology should always be rejected.

@cathamand @smerconish Nice logic, because I don’t like Trump I’ll support a white suprematist. If it’s all bad, then MAS is correct.

@smerconish So what about when Trump, the leader of the world, turns a blind eye to "very fine people"....referring to the Proud Boys...Nazi sympathizers. Explain that. Please. Please explain that. He leads by example. Why is it then ok for one and not another. My point...it's all bad.

@smerconish Maybe we misunderstand. When people call Trump a fascist Nazi, maybe they mean it as a compliment.

@RepMGS @RepLeanne People should understand the importance of learning to read. After a child learns to read, they can read to learn. Many of our public schools fail to share this simple concept. Too many kids can’t read at grade-level and it’s a problem that follows you.

I made a quick stop to drop off a copy of “Buffalo Fluffalo” for @RepLeanne's children’s book drive. Reading is fundamental to early childhood development - plus it's fun! I’m happy to help get books in the hands of kids and parents!

@smerconish @JamesCarville @CNN @cnni When Trump was on the apprentice he had millions of fans. Now he has tens, if not hundreds of millions. I doubt he cares what Carville thinks. I’ve no doubt he enjoys getting him wound up.

@smerconish Disqualifying means ineligible to run. No he should be able to run. And voters should reject him. We deserve to see how many people accept white supremacy. How many people that call Trump a Nazi yet support some that wears it on their skin.

Today's Poll Question at Smerconish.com: Is Graham Platner's Nazi tattoo disqualifying? As Democrats search for four Senate seats to reclaim the majority, Maine has emerged as one of the most important battlegrounds in the country. Michael examines the high-stakes race between longtime Republican Senator Susan Collins and Democratic challenger Graham Platner, a Marine Corps veteran whose campaign has been rocked by revelations about controversial Reddit posts and a tattoo resembling a Nazi-era symbol. @RepMGS This is what protecting fraud looks like. Any and all attempts to review disbursements is condemned. The inconvenient truth: social programs are designed to entrap people in poverty. Swarthmore democrats love poor people. They love them so much they want them to remain poor.

@GovernorShapiro Government at its best. Let people build stadiums and create a problem then spend tax dollars to fix the problem. Anyone want to know how politicians make money off tax dollars: here is a a tiny example. Only $30 million of the billions.

BREAKING: I just announced a $30 million plan to fix traffic congestion and keep people safe around the Sports Complex in South Philly. This area is a major economic and entertainment hub — and too many of us know what it’s like to sit in that traffic. Whether you’re coming into town for a game or you’re a local who drives on these roads daily, these investments will help you get to where you need to go safely and on time.

@smerconish If Jill thought Joe was having a stroke, why didn’t she stop the debate and call for medical attention? With a stroke, a rapid response is a critical part of emergency treatment. Why no medical attention immediately after? Either she’d rather see Joe to drop dead or she’s lying

Michael explains his “no” vote in his poll question which asks whether Jill Biden was blindsided by Joe’s debate performance, arguing that it’s implausible to believe she didn’t see what so many outsiders did. And if she worried in that moment she worried he was having a stroke, what explains the 24 days before he dropped out? Watch the full 20 minute video: youtu.be/X65f3qYZVbU

I’ve heard directly from Pennsylvanians who are worried about the impacts data center development could have. That’s why we’re putting clear standards in place to protect our communities and hold developers accountable. If developers want our support, they’ll need to: 1. Pay for their own power generation — not pass those costs on to consumers. 2. Work with the community and provide real transparency into their plans. 3. Hire and train local workers, creating at least 250 new jobs. 4. Commit to minimizing their air pollution & water consumption while protecting our environment. Learn more:
