One of the most jarring things about adulthood is the realization of how many truly incompetent people are in the most important jobs. When I was a kid, I just assumed everyone “important” was smart or they wouldn’t be important. Boy, was that fucking wrong.

It's true, it's only gotten worse. The app used to be offline-first, blazing fast, music played on a click no matter your network when something was downloaded or cached. Now you open a downloaded playlist or album, while in offline mode, and the app shows a loading spinner for a few seconds before displaying the actual content. Sometimes even fails in the process. How? What are we doing? And to all the people saying 'why don't you cancel?' Because the service is good. It's available on pretty much *every* device. The service is great, it's just that the app is shit.

Amongst my friends, Spotify is the lowest quality consumer app we still pay for. It certainly hasnt gotten noticeably better in the last couple years (arguably worse). So, this is not the positive look Ant and Spotify are spinning here. Bigger picture, this is the problem with a lot of AI reporting. It reports completely meaningless metrics like deploys per day or LoC. Why don’t we start reporting consumer satisfaction reports? Actually end state research results. All the no nuance AI people always come out and think that this is anti AI. Again, I think AI is great and Claude is great. But this is bad marketing and makes both look like clowns.

Programming isn't hard. They made it hard. They taught you to care about class hierarchies, design patterns, and philosophical concepts that have zero overlap with the code required to solve the problem. Look at what a program actually does. Data comes in. You transform it. Data goes out. That's it. That's the entire job. Everything else is optional. And most of it is wrong.

@rdd147 Looks like 100s of thousands of jobs have already been replaced, bro.. And in people’s personal lives they are fixing their own AC, Computer, car, etc. they’re using AI instead of hiring $100+ per hour specialists.. You’re wrong. The value is there. Some won’t use it.

We’re 4 years into what will soon be the largest default crisis in history, and not a single company outside of semiconductors has benefited from Ai. The data centers and hyperscalers are hemorrhaging cash and drowning in debt. The LLM are illiquid with no sustainable path forward due to having to subsidize all of Ai to the point profitability is mathematically unachievable. The end user has never proven a productivity gain above the cost of labor in an even still subsidized usage based model. Trillions into the worst financial crisis in American history. No return.
