meanwhile I’ve been holding back from seeing if I can get into contact with a writer on a nearly dead fic site to ask if I could kind of poach the concept of a fic they started and abandoned over 20 years ago because I wasn’t sure if that would be rude or not 😭

we need those like big forum sites back that can be kept alive by many different fandoms but still have specified spaces. but obv they can have their own problems too (like lj but a lot of lj problems were very unique…)

those websites die out eventually and then there’s just thousands of fics forever gone (experienced this for multiple fandoms)

the great ao3 crash out is a good time to express my long standing belief that fandoms should maintain separate websites/physical avenues for their fic like we did in the old times. much easier to protect your communities work on the small scale.

and I’ve seen people get harassed despite clearly liking him a lot but getting hit with essentially “how dare you love these other characters and their stories too” what is going onnnnn

it’s like ppl are throwing away any knowledge of what makes a story good. like other than something that is a about a character in complete solitude, when has there ever been a GOOD story where it’s entirely about one main char and everyone else is just an unimportant accessory?

that’s what so weird to me it’s not even just them being upset that people dislike lestat (something I feel should be expected with the nature of the story) but I’ve never seen people act like it’s some sort of WRONG to simply like the other characters and their stories too 😭

why is the concept of liking other characters more than lestat so strange to iwtv fans😭 its not like the books focus solely on one character, people had their fan favourites for ages and disliking a lead character is an extremely old concept lol
