I am not very active on twitter but I guess it is about time to announce that I have started as assistant professor @RiceEarthSci this summer.🥳🎉🎊 To celebrate, I will start my series of assistant professor tweets announcing a post-doc opportunity in my new group! 💥☄️💥

The long-held believe that the Earth formed neatly from a tight ring of local Earth-like material is now really challenged by isotope data in the Solar System that instead shows a fossil footprint of both inner and outer disc solids making up the Earth. nature.com/articles/s4158…

I am pleased to introduce you, Dr. Andama Geoffrey, my very first PhD student to successfully defend his thesis at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. Geoffrey's PhD thesis on multi-species pebble accretion passed with flying colors. [1/3]

@GijsMulders @NienkeMarel Would be good to check… but think dust radius conceptually (not real edge, no real size edge either) and practically (real vs observed) complex. Still interesting ofc!

The dust mass in observed discs declines from hundreds of Earth masses to less than one, in a few Myr. Our disc synthesis shows this is consistent with the radial drift of fragmentation-limited pebbles Appelgren, Lambrechts, van der Marel (@NienkeMarel) arxiv.org/abs/2303.07297

-planet formation should probably be near-completed well within ~3 Myr, before there is only a single Earth mass of pebbles left in the disc!

- discs with very low inferred gas accretion rates and high dust masses remain difficult to explain in our model (gray dots = @cfmanara ppvii sample)
