@NealCoolong Not sure what this means? So he sucked at hiring assistants and that’s a good thing?

The head coach’s job is not to get assistants hired as head coaches. And if he sucked so bad at hiring them, he has one helluva record despite poor assistant staffs. Pick a lane. Can’t have this both ways.
Andrew Fillipponi@ThePoniExpress

All these Harbaugh McVay and Shanahan disciples getting head coach interviews + jobs underlines a point. Mike Tomlin was terrible at hiring assistant coaches. After Big Ben got rid of Haley. And Mike Munchak left. It was over. Second rate hires. By a so called Hall of Fame coach.

Let's put two myths to bed. Myth #1: "Tomlin only won with Cowher's players." (Cowher went 8-8, then Tomlin won a SB two years after with half of the starters new. And made an AFC Champ a decade later.) Myth #2: "Tomlin has no coaching tree." (He does, and it doesn't matter.)

Watch what happens with some big-name Steelers after Mike Tomlin's exit. Rodgers gone, Watt may be traded, Cam Heyward might retire, etc. And the Steelers certainly won't attract players like they used to. One of the many dominos to fall with Tomlin out. And you asked for this.

Wow: James Harrison, who played under Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh for many years, doesn’t believe he should be in the Hall Of Fame due to not having a coaching tree along with his negative postseason record. “He hasn't made disciples. You're telling me you're a HOF coach but no one has followed you? He's the only coach that has coached this long but doesn't have a coaching tree. When you look at the greats, nobody has a negative postseason record... he's 8-12.” (via: @deeboandjoe)

Sean McVay has more playoff wins, and more Super Bowls than Mike Tomlin's entire 19 years in Pittsburgh. He was hired in 2017. Tomlin is a good coach, but let's not act like we did anything exceptionally well since 2010. 2011 - lost to Tebow 2012 - missed playoffs 2013 - started 0-4 missed playoffs 2014 - bounced by Baltimore in first round after winning division 2015 - beat a back up QB in Cincinnati by a miracle - blew a lead at Denver 2016 - another blow out by Brady (injuries big factor) 2017 - ass kicked by Jags at home All of these years with a Hall of Fame QB.

All he did was win. Steelers fans wanted Tomlin gone. All he did was lead. Steelers fans wanted Tomlin gone. All he did was dominate. Steelers fans wanted Tomlin gone. Well… he’s gone now. Be careful what you wish for.

In 309 career regular-season games, a Mike Tomlin-coached team was eliminated from the playoffs for only one of those games -- the 2012 finale against the Browns.

🚨 🚨 🚨 #Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has informed the team that he plans to step away from coaching, meaning one of the greatest to do it will take a break. Pittsburgh has a coveted opening.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Mike Tomlin that some can’t seem to understand. Since 2020, Tomlin is 60-40-1 His #1 QBs over that span? 37 and 38 year old Ben Roethlisberger 1st and 2nd year Kenny Pickett 36 year old Russell Wilson 42 year old Aaron Rodgers? Who else is producing a .600 winning percentage over that time? What are we doing?
Marcus Mosher@Marcus_Mosher

The truth is that Mike Tomlin hasn’t been a top-8 HC in a long time. Getting you to 10-7 every year and getting the doors blown off every Wild Card round isn’t impressive. If he were on any other franchise besides the Steelers, he would have been fired after 2021.

Mike Tomlin went 68-48-1 since 2019 with 5 playoff berths using: • Ben Roethlisberger in final years • Mason Rudolph • Duck Hodges • Mitch Trubisky • Kenny Pickett • Justin Fields • Russell Wilson • Aaron Rodgers in final year(s) Won’t find many HCs who can do that.
