Always looking for the silver lining, as I was when the picture was taken in 1958. All comments are mine alone and likes, follows and RTs are no endorsement.

@oakroyd I remember that van well. My first job was to the left, up Woodside Crescent.

@oakroyd Saw him at Green's in 1971, with Jimmy McCulloch on guitar. I remember it because Mayall name-checked Jimmy's band, Bent Frame.

@oakroyd Was never (I think) in the Chevalier, but remember bring in the other two - can't remember the names now, but one was in Sauchiehall St. A few low level bets on roulette, free sandwiches, and wait in the lounge for your taxi instead of standing in a mile-long queue at the rank 🙂

@is_glasgow The Old Swan Inn on the gushet. Had a memorable night with a pal in there in the 70s, then back round the corner to Mannering Road to do some painting and decorating his house. Didn't go well.

@DumfriesTrust @oakroyd Yes, that's Fairfield yard. No idea how Glasgow City Council IDd that as Elmbank St, but they form on misidentification of images.

@oakroyd It's Govan Road, looking towards Fairfield's yard. The goods wagons are being pulled by the electric Fairfield loco, now preserved at Bo'ness.

@oakroyd Was only in it a couple of times. Popular with BT staff from Marland House and nurses from Rottenrow and the Royal.

@is_glasgow Think Haggs Castle (originally a tower house) may shade it? The carved stone above the door records it being built in 1585.

@oakroyd I just get a feeling it's Maryhill, with Maryhill Rd at the end of whatever street that is

@MoneySavingExp I've used GHIC in Spain. It was the first thing I was asked for at the public health clinic. Not having one can make things more complicated and very expensive.

Going to the EU? Ensure you've a valid European Health Insurance Card/Global Health Insurance Card (EHIC/GHIC). Over two million expire this year. ⏰ They get you the same medical treatment as a local citizen at state-run hospitals and GPs in any EU country (plus a few more) 👇

Just had a Dutch couple asking for directions, I pointed them the right way and then said, Get your motor runnin', head out on the highway. Look for adventure and whatever comes your way. Crickets.

The Pollokshaws Tollhouse, photographed in 1954. Pollokshaws began as an independent weaving settlement to the south of Glasgow in the early c18th. It was an important crossing place of two major roads: the Glasgow to Irvine Road and the Rutherglen to Govan Road. 📷 Newsquest

FT in Hamburg: Altona 93 1-1 Caledonian Braves. A goal in the dying moments sees the Braves leave with a draw after a high-energy pre-season performance. 💪 Plenty of positives as we now turn our attention to the upcoming fixtures back in Scotland. 🔵❤️ #CaledonianBraves #COYB

Ouah !
