@Sheridanblog Not sure about this take. We ofc know Kerr experiments with lineups in the beginning of the season to find the best +/- for the team. Kerr gave him the opportunity and he took advantage. A 12-2 stat is minimal compared to a 82 game season.

It's sad reading stuff like this, where Gui Santos thinks it's Steve Kerr who helped him take off, without realizing other coaches would have used him as a rotational player since at least last season regardless of who was in or out. I advocated for him to permanently be in rotation last season because Kerr kept jerking him in and out, and repeatedly cursed Kerr out this season when he continuously gave Santos useless sparse minutes or DNP'd him while using Buddy Hield in comical 3G/4G lineups instead, even though Santos already proved he belonged last season. Kerr didn't really use Santos for basically 1/3 of the season - you think that could have made a difference? Maybe if Santos was in there to do the dirty work at PF instead of Jimmy Butler, things would have played out differently. And it was Terry Stotts who used Santos for all 12 minutes of Q4 vs Clippers earlier this season where he was a +13 in a one-point loss - Santos was a DNP leading up to that quarter, but Kerr got ejected, allowing Stotts to leave him in the game in the clutch minutes where he excelled. After that, Santos started to become a more fixture part of the rotation. You'll also remember last season, despite the team going 12-2 with him in rotation, Kerr tried to close a game without him and Steph Curry, for the first time in his career, demanded Kerr play a specific player, and that was Santos - "we need Gui right now" were the words he used. Kerr was as late as can be in realizing the value of Santos while playing favorites with Hield and Podz all day and night. I don't want to hear this BS, even if it's from Santos himself

@Sheridanblog Interesting take. I respect the opinion. But imo what hurt the warriors was the bench depth and injuries. Ofc things would have played out different if Butler was still active throughout the playoffs

Terry Stotts came to the Warriors, implemented a brand new offensive system, and watched them take over as the best offense in the league, helping them to a 12-3 start last season. Draymond openly called it the "Terry Stotts offense" in his podcast with Baron Davis. Even Buddy Hield was having a career year under this new system, which simplified their actions and featured all the players to their strengths, rather than forcing all the players to cater to the needs of Kerr's trash HS system with no context. The very next game after that podcast, Kerr scrapped the entire thing and went back to his said-trash system, and suddenly, the Warriors looked like the worst offense in the league. Kerr chose to kill his own team rather than enjoy Stotts' work because it wasn't "his offense". Kerr showed once again that he cared more about himself than the team. I can only imagine how disgusted Stotts must have felt. For sure, he realized what kind of narcissistic, egomaniac of an individual he signed up to work for. Given that he already ran into trouble with Adrian Griffin, it was likely imperative that he didn't cause issues anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if he was privately hoping Kerr walked this offseason in hopes of taking over. He also closed a game against the Clippers earlier this past season when Kerr got ejected, and he instantly played Gui Santos the entire Q4 after not playing for the first three quarters, and he was a +13 in a game they lost by one point. It was that moment when it was shown how important Santos was to the team, because Stotts exposed that reality in a way Kerr did not. Only then, did Santos really started to get back into the mix. If Stotts simply took over the team two seasons ago instead of masquerading as a Kerr assistant, Warriors situation would be completely different right now. A total shame. As for Jerry Stackhouse, he likely could not challenge Kerr on the retarded tiny 3G/4G lineups without proper defenders in rotation, so he also likely was frustrated trying to run the team's defense with his hands tied behind his back, although I will say I found heavy flaws in some of his defensive schemes. Best of luck to these gentlemen - they deserved better.
