Jupiter with GRS and three moons on May 1st Before the drawing i spent about 40mins imaging the planet. Seeing was very good at times. Europa at left with Ganymede and Io at right. Ganymede's shadow is cast onto the planet. This is likely my final image of this apparition as the planet is now getting low in the evening twilight. After 52 nights of imaging and my 28th straight apparition imaging the planet it was a great note to end on.

Jupiter with its moons last night - a visual drawing made after i finished imaging. I made the sketch as is normal with pencil, and colourised it with pencils when indoors while the view was fresh in memory. Between around 1992 and 2000 i made many visual drawings of the planets, and indeed for ~200yrs this was the primary method by which astronomers recorded planetary views. Not something i do that often these days, but this particular aspect prompted me to make the effort. It is certainly no masterpiece, but it well represents what i could see.

This isn't like my past colorful moon photos It's actually a photo that is impossible to capture from Earth. This is a little snippet from a first-of-its kind collaboration with @astro_reid that takes lunar photography to the absolute extreme More to come 👀

Timing is everything. Check out these images, taken today, of Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center. At 07:29 local time, Gen-3 captured an extreme off-nadir twilight shot of a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket on the pad before again catching the vehicle in flight at 10:13, 38 seconds after launch, as it was traveling more than 400 miles per hour. With time-diverse imaging capabilities and flexible imaging modes, Gen-3 sees relevant activity at all hours of the day.

The Comet Craters Nestled in the western lava plains of Mare Fecunditatis (the Sea of Fertility), Messier is one of the Moon’s most intriguing impact features. This relatively young crater, named after French comet hunter Charles Messier, measures roughly 9 by 11 km and has a striking oblong shape caused by a low-angle meteoroid strike, thought to be less than 5° from the surface. Just 6 km to the west lies its companion, Messier A. Together they create a cosmic spectacle: twin bright rays streak westward from Messier A for over 100 km, resembling a comet’s tail across the dark mare. Messier itself sends rays north and south, adding to the dramatic effect. Easily visible through a small telescope, especially close to the full moon period, this dynamic duo is a highlight for backyard astronomers.
