I'm just a French random guy playing in his corner, but I'm thinking today of my gaming American comrades on this network who aren't happy with their future president. Don't despair. Old Europe teaches us that even divisions that seem insurmountable can be healed.

I used to think that Terraforming Mars was boring in solo. But the Shaw/Turczi solo mode changes everything. A real opponent, easy to manage, w. various levels of difficulty. Finally maybe I will enjoy this game. All expansions covered, but even with base game, it's fun !

Faiyum, by Friedmann Friese. I tried today an excellent fan-made automa (on BGG), better than the official solo mode imo. A very interesting game, really liked the flow.

@playersaidblog @mk20336 @gmtgames You'll see, but I think the card-luck in this one is less punitive than in others (Cruel Necessity for example). I am only worried by the card "Making Kings" in EMP era. There should have been a way to get it from the deck by paying 10G, as for Josephine.

@mk20336 @gmtgames My only initial criticism is it is a bit random (with card draws and dice) and a bit chaotic with cards coming in and going out of the deck and playing off of each other. A lot to keep straight. I’m sure it gets easier as you play more. I do like the narrative though.

In the mood for a heavy solo game with TRAINS ? Try Steam (M. Wallace, 2009) with the solo variant of GameRulesforOne (BGG). I am fascinated by solo systems for non solo-friendly games. Can't wait to see the systems of 1862 (Gmt) and Hegemony.

@markherman54 Hmm, couldn't find it on their website, but found a file in Grognard.com, for Napoleon at Bay : #pageTop" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">grognard.com/ArticlePageLis… As the example in the file mentions Highway to the Kremlin, it should be this one. I'll give it a try, thanks !

Read “War and Peace” so long ago my paperback copy cost .99 cents. It led to my fascination with the 1812 invasion. My favorite game on the topic is Highway to the Kremlin (OSG) that I wrote solo rules for that Kevin published. The guys should take a look at that one also.
The Players’ Aid@playersaidblog

In this From Cover to Cover, @playersaidalex looks at War & Peace by Leo Tolstoy. He then discusses Mark McLaughlin’s War and Peace from One Small Step, Field Commander: Napoleon from @danverssengames and Commands & Colors: Napoleonics from @gmtgames theplayersaid.com/2024/10/06/fro…

@biffybeans @djackthompson Very good game, but hard (still struggling in scenario 1 of the campaign, shame on me). Moreover, I find it emotionally involving (less than Navajo Wars or Pavlov's house, but still), which is a quality, but can refrain sometimes from playing as much as I would like.

New game! Been wanting to try it f/ a while. Need a visual cue f/ +1 effects. (I’ll make chits) What does it say about me that I’ve played 13 of the “Fans also like” games on BGG? @djackthompson (I 💜 Friday & Deep Space D6. Aerion & For Northwood are also 👍 #soloboardgamer)

pacing & inflections? In any event, I’m grateful as a #sologamer that there are options for visual learners like me. Can you point to a video that was exceptional in helping you to learn a difficult game? @wargamers @historicalgamedesign

I have a hard time processing spoken & written instructions - so learning games is often quite the challenge for me. I need a manual or a tutorial to be *just right* for me to “get it.” Otherwise, it’s a long hard trip. I am looking back to see what videos were really good at🧵

@biffybeans @2d6ee_games @Lapinesco Yes ! The board has a ‘hand-drawn’ design, but neat, which is very elegant. I particularly like the edge of the board, with its slightly irregular diamond shapes (there are better photos on bgg).

Lembitu, by @2d6ee_games for an Estonian-themed night (w. a bottle of rhubarb wine brought back from Tallinn this summer). A really nice game, with Pandemic and StateofSiege vibes, but with his own flavour as well. So glad to have found it in Paris (thanks @Lapinesco ;)).

@Lapinesco @2d6ee_games Non, hélas ! Il demande un peu plus d'investissement et donc il a rejoint la pile à jouer. Mais j'ai hâte.

Brian Boru (P. Sylvester), solo mode of @rickyroyalbod. As always, Ricky Royal succeeds in soloing the unsoloable, creating a "new" game within the game (like John Company). 2nd game, victory (41 to 39 VP), Easy+ mode : easy mode Rule, but Mad Mac started at 10VP (not 5).

@derridaknight @gmtgames The Great Battles series is a banger. Plays very well solitaire. The rules seem daunting at first, but once you get them down the system is smooth. Have fun!

Playing solo France'40 (M. Simonitch/GMT) on Vassal (I'm not home). End of turn 1 of Sickle Cut scenario, Charleville is still french, but not for long. I can have bias on this one, but I think it's difficult for the german side to reach Abbeville. Great game, no doubt !
