Raising NI fees to GB levels is a kamikaze move. The U’s here will empty. The smartest way to save money is for Queens and UU to merge into one Greater Belfast U. Derry & Coleraine can then follow the RIA plan and form a cross-border U, eligible for Southern and EU funding.

We urgently need a universities’ regulator for NI. UU bankrupted HE with its Belfast folly. Stormont’s plan to raise fees can’t work as RoI fees are less than half ours - and dropping. Save costs by merging UUB with Queens and let Derry/Coleraine form a cross-border U with ATU.

Aside from tens in millions in capital spend, UU pays out just under £7m on the debt on its newBelfast campus. It spent a grand total of £7m in Derry in the last decade - and is spending nothing - zilch on new housing for Magee students. We need a HE Scrutiny Commission - NOW!
