Remembering the 40 children killed in the Easter Rising 110 years ago “ some of them died with their first and last sweet taste of chocolate in their mouths.” Shamefully their names were removed from the Necrology wall in ⁦@ExpGlasnevin⁩ ⁦@glasnevin

@malonebarry Sorry, which one is the US president again - the one with the big hair, the big ears or the big mouth?

When we humans use our power for good... so many distressing stories of human destruction in the world - heartwarming to read this story of respect and dignity. Well done GUH, the Air Corps and Letterkenny Hospital and all the humans that made it possible. May he rest in peace.

@MikeLevin When you elect an unfit for post president - it's not surprising he'll surround himself with unfit for post people who, in turn, will get rid of competent fit for post people that they regard as threats to their fragile egos.

The Army Chief of Staff, a combat veteran with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, asked Pete Hegseth why he was blocking the promotions of two Black officers and two female officers who had earned them. Hegseth refused to answer. Then he fired him. Nine U.S. officials told NBC News that Hegseth has blocked or delayed promotions for more than a dozen Black and female senior officers across all four branches of the military. Hegseth has now fired or sidelined more than a dozen generals and admirals. He is an out-of-control, unqualified former TV host and nobody in the Republican Party will say a word about it because they don’t want to make Trump angry. nbcnews.com/politics/natio…

@MichaelRosenYes Bewildering, isn't it? I mean we all know that had it been the other way around neither the US nor Israel would have responded. They may have tutted a bit and wagged a finger but that would have been the extent of it. How unreasonable of Iran.

Military historians will really puzzle over this one: America and Israel attacked Iran and....this is the big mystery, Iran responded. I'm reading tweets that seem puzzled that this happened - even quite cross about it. And Trump is furious that Iran closed the Straits.

@ezekiel34v25 @chrisadonnelly There would be absolutely no point in creating a United Ireland that abolished the Irish language and Irish sports. Would you ban the English language, soccer, rugby, cricket, hockey, tennis and snooker to keep NI in the UK?

Important discussion to thrash out now. It’s hypocritical & unreasonable to demand a new flag in context in which UK flag has never been changed to accommodate the minority in NI. That is mostly due to its non-contested status in GB. Same applies for Tricolour in Irish state now
Stephen Nolan@StephenNolan

Any 'new Ireland' in the event of Irish reunification needs a new flag - Belfast Telegraph's John Laverty @JohnCharlesLave says the Tricolour is "divisive"

“Controversial” ? Seriously? How about: “immoral”, “unethical”; contrary to all democratic norms”? How about: “in breach of international law”? How about “heinous”, “stomach-turning”, “irredeemably revealing of a sick society in need of help”?

Dear people of the UK when you go to vote on May 7th, just before you write the X in the box count to 10 and think about what's happening in America because their electorate voted in a complete fucking imbecile, you have been warned, don't live to regret your decision 🙏

@DAaronovitch If by 'dark humour' you mean hypocrisy... and that extends to the starving, torturing, killing, maiming and displacing of multitudes as well as the initimidation, terrorising and dispossessing happening in the West Bank.

I did a reading the other night at the Muswell Hill Bookshop and Parlour (2nd hand books, mostly) and Katrina the co-owner gave me a framed picture of the 6th form drama group that she and my late son Eddie were in, back in the late 1990s. They were wearing zombie make-up.

I so deeply admire and respect this man. After being denied entry to the Holy Sepulchre, Cardinal Pizzaballa prayed at Gethesmane, blessing Jerusalem, this city where I was born and that I love so much: “Today Jesus weeps once more over Jerusalem. He weeps over this city, which remains a sign of both hope and sorrow, of grace and suffering. He weeps over this Holy Land, still unable to recognize the gift of peace. He weeps for all the victims of a war that seems without end: for divided families, for shattered hopes. But the tears of Jesus are never fruitless. They open our eyes, challenge us, and reveal the truth.” Amen.

@EdwardDeLavigne @rtenews Church of Holy Sepulchre is closed to most visitors but limited clergy led prayer is allowed... this was a private mass for 4 people. There are restrictions elsewhere which limits the number of people gathering to not more than 50. Cardinal Pizzaballa was within regulations.

@rtenews There’s a war going on ! All religious sites are closed for safety reasons including the holiest site of Jerusalem where Jews may freely pray. Why ? Islamist rockets have exploded over Jerusalem. This is wartime safety for all faiths.
