I did a reading the other night at the Muswell Hill Bookshop and Parlour (2nd hand books, mostly) and Katrina the co-owner gave me a framed picture of the 6th form drama group that she and my late son Eddie were in, back in the late 1990s. They were wearing zombie make-up.

I so deeply admire and respect this man. After being denied entry to the Holy Sepulchre, Cardinal Pizzaballa prayed at Gethesmane, blessing Jerusalem, this city where I was born and that I love so much: “Today Jesus weeps once more over Jerusalem. He weeps over this city, which remains a sign of both hope and sorrow, of grace and suffering. He weeps over this Holy Land, still unable to recognize the gift of peace. He weeps for all the victims of a war that seems without end: for divided families, for shattered hopes. But the tears of Jesus are never fruitless. They open our eyes, challenge us, and reveal the truth.” Amen.

There are restrictions elsewhere which limits the number of people gathering to not more than 50. Cardinal Pizzaballa was within regulations.

@rtenews There’s a war going on ! All religious sites are closed for safety reasons including the holiest site of Jerusalem where Jews may freely pray. Why ? Islamist rockets have exploded over Jerusalem. This is wartime safety for all faiths.
