@CynicalPublius Never been an issue for me: "I'm a wartime veteran but I never deployed to a combat zone or was in combat". Kind of a mouthful I guess.

I get slightly mad at veterans who feel it is unfair that they call themselves veterans because they never served in a combat zone. I always tell them: "You raised your right hand. You were ready to die for your country. You're a veteran." This is particularly true for Cold War vets who stared down the Soviets. There should be an official Cold War Service Medal.
Happy Captain@EODHappyCaptain

Social media proves that No one gatekeeps being a veteran, like a veteran It seems online there is always a reason you’re not part of the club. You don’t have the right award. You didn’t see combat. You saw the wrong type of combat For what it’s worth, I’m proud of all of you.

@lisavsworld I'm sad to hear this, and will send prayers. The "everyone" in your story didn't do you a favor. If a young woman wants a family that needs to be the priority very early on. Some of it is on the men of my generation too; we really didn't grow up to give ladies good options.

When I was younger, I had a bunch of hopes and dreams and things to look forward to. I really wanted to get married, but I didn't know when that was going to happen or when I'd even meet someone I'd consider marrying. I used these other hopes and dreams as a distraction for being single. Everyone always told me that I needed to pursue those goals, stay on track, and eventually I'd meet someone and connect over doing what we both loved. As long as there was something to look forward to, I had a purpose. I could present myself in a positive light, as someone who was self-assured and attractive. I mean, what isn't attractive about someone who has a sense of inner joy and confidence in themselves? Well, I reached the end of my list 6 years ago and I don't even know what to look forward to anymore. There isn't anything else I want to work towards or do. There are no more distractions. I'm just existing in a job I don't like (and I'll be honest, there will never be a job I do like). It provides no sense of fulfillment and I knew it wouldn't from the start. I just needed a job because I was single. I feel like I'm dragging myself through life. I have no purpose and I don't want to invent some fake purpose to keep myself occupied. There is no job, no project, no amount of distraction that will return me to 15 years ago when I believe my whole life was ahead of me. I didn't know then there would be nothing left to look forward to.

#OTD April 16, 1521: German reformer Martin Luther arrives at the Diet of Worms, expecting a chance to debate the concerns he raised in his 95 Theses, particularly the abuse of indulgences. To his surprise, it is not a debate but a judicial hearing demanding he recant his writings. The next day, Luther defends his conscience before the assembly, declaring, ‘Since then Your Majesty and your lordships desire a simple reply, I will answer without horns and without teeth. Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust either in the pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and I will not retract anything, since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. Here I stand, I can do no other, so help me God. Amen.”

For the next few hours, I'll be working on shoutouts for Veteran accounts. I like to focus on smaller accounts. So for this round: Less than 2,000 followers. Reply with where you went to Basic/Boot and I'll get to it!

@GomezReporting Too many Dem enclaves in ABQ to turn the tide. People relying on government benefits to live and then the well-to-do class that likely ties their income to state/federal funding.

@DearS_o_n Tax preparation. Even the less expensive software can make it complicated and costs about $150. I feel like a manual filling is too risky for most people.

Discipleship going slow, mostly because I still feel like a fraud having recently returned to God the church. I am really excited to get a good friend and former coworker to attend church this coming Sunday. His life is pretty messy right now, it's what happens when we stray.

With 342 million people in America, you're claiming 178 million of them are Catholic? Are you being serious? And how many of them actually attend Mass weekly and not some woke Novus Ordo disaster church, let alone go to confession, observe all the days of obligation, etc.?
ARISTOTLE 🇻🇦🇻🇦@noah_mwamfupe

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨 Catholics in the United States🇺🇸 have now reached 52%, officially making America a Catholic nation. Little by little, we hope to welcome more Protestants and Muslims into the Catholic faith as well. By 2040, our vision is for the whole United States to be united in one faith. We firmly believe that God makes a way where there seems to be no way. 🙏🇺🇸🇺🇲

This is how it works. Not trying to jab at these people, but the truth is that we are born, we age, we get old, and then we die. To deny that is to deny God's eternal truth and the wonder of the one life we get on this earth.

Considering a run for the NM GOP chairmanship! I have the experience running large scale political organizations to go with new ideas to help grow the Republican base in our state. I am the former National Chairman of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly and will look to utilize my experience in rebuilding a national brand to rejuvenate the NM GOP. Just considering it, and will deeply work hard to ensure our state starts to win elections.

@9mmsmg Haha, look up "Adam Carolla Blowhard former addicts" and enjoy. I do need to keep my mouth shut, BUT there are also real addicts that aren't ready to admit they have an issue. I don't judge, but just say what's in my heart. "I used to engage in insane behavior like that too."

I'm going to start this post by saying something positive about ex-addicts of any kind. It is fantastic that you improved your life and beat your addiction. Honestly, great work, and I hope you continue winning against addiction. The rest of this post will not be as positive toward a very specific type of ex-addict. If you are offended by it, then it applies to you. If not, then it does not apply to you. One of the most irritating types of people to be around is the addict who projects all their weaknesses onto others who have self-control. The self-righteous teetotaler who drove his car through a bingo hall drunk. If he sees a friend drinking a cocktail, he will try to convince him he needs to go to AA. The ex-smoker who will explain to every human on earth that inhaling burning tobacco smoke probably is not the best thing for your lungs, as if it is some hidden secret. The ex-junkie who once stole his grandmother's pain pills and TV, now telling someone who takes 140 mg of MDMA a few times a year that they have a drug problem. The ex-ham planet who was eating 6000 calories a day and who will lecture someone normal-sized who occasionally wants a little bit of junk food while normally not eating like a hippopotamus. The ex-gambler who lost all of his family's money playing Plinko online, now judging a guy having a little fun in Vegas once a year. You people are some of the most annoying people on earth. The reason you are an addict is because you have no self-control. You are not able to moderate yourself and require total abstinence from your addictions. Not everyone is like that. That is an issue with you. It is best that you do not fall back into temptation. Just shut up about it when it's not necessary. Side note: Why do you keep detailed records of how long you have quit something? Most addicts I know can tell you how long they have been clean to the hour. Why are you keeping track? Are you planning on going back to your addiction so you can see how long you quit THIS time? Just live the rest of your life abstaining. Don't set a dumb landmark.

Millenials and Gen Z : A Warning You’re going to be offered promotions. You’re going to calculate the sacrifice in work/life balance vs pay for these positions and say “no thank you” By doing so, you will be working for people not smart enough to make the same calculations. This is not enjoyable. You will then be tempted to take a management position because you are sick of working for idiots. This is also not enjoyable. I have no words of wisdom on how to navigate this- just a warning that it’s coming and it sucks.

I have failed God more times than I can count. I've sinned, not by accident, but on purpose. I've hurt other people. Hurt myself. I've done things so shameful that I wanted to bring them with me to my grave. I've been down the rabbit hole of pornography, addiction to weed, hatred for people close to me, envy over what I didn't have. I deserve nothing short of eternity in hell. Yet, God doesn't count any of that against me. He forgives me, and even calls me his own son. He is the only reason I'm here today. Thank you, Jesus.

@HansFiene Coming from a reformed hedonist: One's life is either moving towards God or away from Him. If it's leading away, some of us have seen what happens, and it's not good.
