DeFi DOESN'T EXIST? The proof might be in a Manhattan courtroom right now. Quick recap of the rsETH hack: April 18, a hacker forged a cross-chain bridge message, minted unbacked rsETH, used it as collateral on Aave, and drained roughly $230M of user funds. Arbitrum's "Security Council" intercepted $71M and froze it, planning to return it to the Aave users it was stolen from. Then victims of North Korean terror attacks with default judgments against NK showed up. They claim the hacker was Lazarus Group. They got a federal judge to serve a Restraining Notice on Arbitrum DAO and tried to seize the $71M as "North Korean property." Aave LLC has now hired a Manhattan law firm to fight it in federal court. Every party in the room is centralized. The protocol has an LLC. The L2 has a Security Council that can freeze funds at will. The DAO can be served with court papers. The judge has the final word. The lawyers bill by the hour. If a federal judge in New York can freeze and unfreeze your "decentralized" protocol, that protocol was never decentralized.

TL;DR on the Aave/Arbitrum/Lazarus mess ↓ April 18: Kelp exploit hits. Bad rsETH/wrsETH collateral creates debt across Aave and Compound. April 21: Arbitrum freezes ~30,766 ETH linked to the attacker. April 24/25: Aave + DeFi United coordinate a recovery plan to freeze the funds, recover assets, and prove ecosystem support to cover the shortfall. May 1: A law firm serves Arbitrum DAO with a restraining notice, trying to block the frozen ETH from moving into recovery. Their argument is that if the ETH is tied to North Korea/Lazarus, then people who already won lawsuits against North Korea should be able to claim it first. But the issue is that no court has actually proven North Korea or Lazarus executed the hack. May 4: Aave filed an emergency motion asking the court to remove the restraining notice so the frozen ETH can be released for recovery. This has turned into a circus. But I side with Aave here. A thief doesn't gain lawful ownership of stolen property by stealing it.

ASTER BURNS OVER 310K TOKENS AS AIRDROP CLAIM WINDOW OPENS Aster (@Aster_DEX) has completed Stage 6 of its airdrop distribution with over 620,000 tokens settled. Half of that amount, roughly 310,000 $ASTER, has been permanently burned. The remaining tokens have been moved to the project treasury. The immediate claim window for users is now open.
