@ojibwe_poutine tbh i didn’t think of farm/barn cats when i fired this tweet off - point taken. they do care. that said, those people have made a choice to lower the expected lifespan of their cats in order for them to provide pest control. a trade off they’re okay with and i won’t judge.

@devlry My dog is 16,2 cats are 7,one is 4 and youngest is 3. So they are gardeners all day long. And its their nature. As much we need sun,fresh air,they need it too. They are so happy when they are playing..take care of you and your animals. Best wishes

@basedbytes i get you but the data shows that outdoor cats live on average 2-5 years whereas indoor cats live on average 12-17 years.. seems like the outdoor cat owners are really rolling the dice. nuance tho, like you said - not all environments are the same!!

@devlry Load of nonsense. Had cats growing up, they loved going out into the garden, and neighbours garden, exploring. Keeping a cat locked up in the home is actually sick and twisted. If you live in the city I understand, but in the suburbs or country, let them roam and be free.

@FuukTwitar i feel you! i'm glad your cat made it thru the outside years just fine and is enjoying her retirement 🤍 let them be who they are can work out and can backfire.. average life span of outdoor cats is scary low and drastically lower than indoor cats - that's my main concern

@devlry My cat was an outside cat when she was young - would not/could not get her to stay inside, even if we asked nicely🥺 - she is now an indoor cat in her old age. Idk...let them be who they are 🤷🏻‍♀️😂😂❤️

@84389Love nope! i live in a house on a lake w a beautiful yard. i see flattened cats on the roads in Miami every week though and i recently lost ducklings to outdoor cats that roam my neighborhood which sucks. you can assess the risks of your cat's environment and make the call.

@devlry I am assuming that you live in building and your pets have no yard. I have one house cat,he also goes outside every day. And 3 outdoor cats,dog,chickens,cow and horse. They have their houses in yard,and they belong here.Should I bring them in the house because you said so?

@devlry My cat got run over this year after I begged my mum to not let her outside. She took all the attempts to escape and the constant pawing at the windows as a sign the cat wasn’t happy in the house, she was probably right. But I was right and it was too dangerous.
