@AgentNightRaven @igdmag A lot of the accounts that I see using similar style seem to have 1 out of every 3 posts go viral. Otherwise their posts are about on par with ours even though we have a smaller audience.

I see a lot of "indie game marketers" on here with very sus engagement and very bold claims of the amount of wishlists and sales they generate for games. Is anything real anymore?

@igdmag Sounds like they were botting and it didn’t pay off anymore or they got caught.

@devsanddorks I've seen a few indie game marketing accounts just stop overnight and no longer returned for months after building up to 30k or so followers, then removing their blue tick. Not sure what that is about.

@devsanddorks I have seen one recently. Got 2 viral videos on TikTok with 1.5 million views in total. Also they shared tons of videos on Insta. But in steam page they don’t even have a trailer. And they say they got 2K WL in 2 days.

@IndiegameKim Yeah, there are a lot of tricks. I’ve noticed some games have to be shown through clips because screenshots don’t do the game justice. Then some other games do amazing with just screenshots because everyone looks like a work of art.

@devsanddorks I tried the similar format for the games I am working on but I barely got any views. I think game genre matters tbh.

@igdmag So on top of the marketing being fake, we also have to talk in a fake robotic way to make the AI algorithm happy. Let’s just admit the Amish were right and burn it to the ground.

@devsanddorks It's more of an algorithm hack.. using 3rd person context, eventually it may treat it as spam. Everyone is jumping on the "This indie game, or this indie game dev". Good for Indie game visibility and wishlists for now, but not sure how long it will last.

@devsanddorks I'm always asking the same question, how on earth are they reaching those numbers, claiming is one thing, showing them is another.

@AgentNightRaven Yep. I see those claims a lot and they have no way of tracking wishlists. One guy claimed to get 10k wishlist for a game in one day but I, along with many others, promoted the game the same day.

@devsanddorks Yea someone claimed to get 10 wishlists from a single “viral post” but who knows how legit their screenshot is 🤔

@SkunkDev The best is when they also have the gold badge.
