If it's truly the case that Ole Miss kept him from finishing and that decision reflects what fans and players wanted, then you can't say that Kiffin "abandoned" his team. You can say that Ole Miss wouldn't let him finish the season because no one wanted him there anymore. But you can't say that Kiffin "abandoned" them. That's not what happened.

Nick Saban is spot-on, and Pat Macafee and friends are out to lunch on this one. Ole Miss could have made an opportunity for Kiffin to complete the season at Ole Miss, but they said no. They owed it to their players and fans to make it work but refused.

@josephbackholm He hadn’t left when they were negotiating this. He only left on Sunday after Ole Miss told him that he couldn’t finish the season at Ole Miss.

I’ve answered this over and over. LSU said that they were willing to wait for Kiffin to finish his playoff run. All Ole Miss had to do was say, “Okay, Lane. You are our coach until after the playoffs are done. Your contract with LSU cannot have a start date before our playoffs are done.” That’s how you do it.

@PatMcAfeeShow But if you are involved in giving advice then why don’t you conflict yourself out of the conversation about what Ole Miss should do about their playoff coaching situation. Can’t be a neutral observer with the conflicts present. This doesn’t even touch the shared agency issue.

Kiffin, Sumrall, and Eric Morris are each taking jobs at new programs. All three are coaching playoff contenders. All three asked to continue coaching their current team. Tulane and UNT said yes. Ole Miss said no. If you’re outraged at only one coach, you’ve been manipulated.
