But I see childbirth (when it’s possible) as one of the deepest, most embodied sacrifices a woman can bring to the table in marriage, not the only one, and not something that defines her entire worth. It’s not just about having a baby, it’s carrying life for nine months, the physical toll, the risks, the permanent changes to her body, and the lifelong investment that follows. Where I gently push back is the idea that if a woman can’t give birth, she ‘can’t offer anything.’ That’s not what I’m saying at all. Infertile women (or couples who choose not to have kids) bring incredible value, love, partnership, and fruitfulness in other ways, spiritual, emotional, communal. Marriage isn’t incomplete without children, many godly couples thrive and serve God powerfully without them. The ‘yes’ to marriage stands on its own. At the same time, when God does bless a couple with the ability to have children, downplaying childbirth as ‘not the greatest sacrifice’ can unintentionally minimize what many women experience as a profound, irreplaceable offering. For women who walk through pregnancy and birth, it’s often one of the most tangible and costly ways they pour themselves out for the family, a lot have lost their lives, like the friend I spoke about two days ago that died from eclampsia, a lot have lost their sight, their voices and even their ability to walk and function well again after childbirth. So maybe it’s me alone, but childbirth will always remain the biggest sacrifice a woman can make. BTW I Love you too! 🌸🤗”
