@MisutaaAsriel @app_settings Yes, I do, but I feel there was pressure put on Tim to fire Ive as head of design over BendGates, the 2016 MBP, and the Butterfly Keyboard. All of which, were ruined by Ive wanting them super thin. Jobs gave him too much power and once he died, no one questioned anything he did

@dhunt716 @app_settings To be fair liquid glass was clearly a rush job. I think with some better direction from up top, and an extra year, they might've been able to pull it off. Johnny was more than about thinness; the man was obsessed with making luxury products, even before Jobs. Remember the TAM?

@SnazzyLabs Makes you wonder if he was really cut out to be an executive. He's brilliant, but I feel the problems started once he took over macOS development from Bertrand Serlet. I wouldn't have a problem with Federighi going back to a lower-role, which seems to be his strong point.

Love Craig Federighi but wouldn’t be sad if he didn’t make it through the executive transition. On one hand, I think he’s taken too much direct blame regarding Apple Intelligence. On the other hand, I think there are a lot of other platform problems that are squarely his fault.

Does the design of Little Finder Guy mean Apple admitted they made a grave mistake with the Finder icon in Tahoe, and it will be reversed in macOS 27?

50 years of @Apple From the early days of the #iPod to bringing the #iPhone into the world, some of the most formative years of my career were spent there. The products and teams stay with you. But more importantly so does how Apple thinks. A few lessons that have held true for decades: 1) Start with the user, not the tech. The question isn’t “what can we build?” but “what problem actually matters?” 2) Focus is everything. Apple is defined as much by what it says no to as what it builds. 3) End-to-end matters. Hardware, software, services. It all has to work together. 4) Details are the product. What feels small is what users remember. 5) Debate hard. Commit fully. 6) Build for the long term. We’re in another moment of massive technological change. The fundamentals haven’t changed. The companies that win build things people actually use and can’t imagine living without. Congrats to everyone who has been part of Apple’s first 50 years! 🙌

@app_settings That's exactly what I'm thinking! Apple seems to be gravitating towards "Studio" to brand their high-end products. Likely "Pro" will be going away soon...

ok hear me out: what if the new higher-end “MacBook Ultra” that’s rumoured to come out later this year won’t be called the MacBook Ultra at all what if it’s called the MacBook Studio 👀

@soywig @tgod34748 Seems like Apple has no intention on developing GarageBand any further. More than likely, they are trying to push everyone to Logic Pro on Creator Studio.

I have a hunch that the "Pro" moniker inside of Apple is going away. It seems like they are leaning more towards "Studio" to reference their high-end products. Would not be shocked if the M6 MacBook Pro ends up being "MacBook Studio", or the foldable iPhone as "iPhone Studio"...

Apple just pulled the plug on the Mac Pro 🚨 Mac Pro (2006–2026) 🖥️ • Original Tower → Iconic • Trash Can → Bold experiment • Modern Tower → Power refined No future plans. The pro lineup just got a lot more… interesting. 🤔

@mysk_co Apple was rumored to be working on an Extreme chip for the Mac Pro, that would have combined two Ultra chips together. While the thermal headroom would have supported it, it apparently wasn't cost-effective to fabricate, plus they probably ran into engineering issues

I wonder what’s the real story behind what happened to the Apple Silicon Mac Pro. It didn’t make any sense from the outset when it came out: It was much more expensive than Mac Studio, all for the pleasure of having some PCI slots which couldn’t even be used to add GPUs. And unlike every other Mac Pro, including the 2013 trashcan, you couldn’t upgrade RAM, or the CPU, or do much of anything else. Apple clearly invested a lot in the development of the 2019 Intel Mac Pro: New case, MPX modules, and surely it was developed with Apple Silicon in mind since it came out just a year before the transition started. I find it hard to hard to believe that Apple’s plan all along was to add the M2 Ultra chip to Mac Pro and call it a day. Was there an M-series chip even larger than the Ultra, one that allowed for expandable memory?
Steve Moser@SteveMoser

RIP Mac Pro. Wild that Apple’s $7,000 flagship tower with an M2 Ultra was slower (single‑core) than a $4,000 Mac Studio (M3 Ultra)… which is also slower(single-core) than a $600 MacBook Neo (A18 Pro). The performance ladder inverted itself. Mobile silicon just ended the workstation era.

This is what drives me insane about my fellow tech nerds. Nobody who is buying the MacBook Neo is running Lightroom, and if they are, they need at least a MacBook Air. Let's be realistic here for a change, can we?
Vadim Yuryev@VadimYuryev

Can 8GB of Unified Memory on MacBook Neo match 16GB on Windows Laptops? NO! Did a RAM stress test by exporting photos in Lightroom which is VERY RAM-hungry and opened browser tabs. The slow SSD speed sabotages the swap memory performance. Full video: youtu.be/f9fhCMBIbis

As a heads up, if you use MacsFanControl, iStat Menus, etc. to monitor the temperature of your Mac, be aware they are not compatible with the new M5 machines, likely) due to the CPU/GPU being separate dies on the SoC. These apps will need to be updated to work properly
