Europe's oldest Chinese community, Britain's oldest black community, and the first mosque to be built in the UK are all in Liverpool. LHFC is proud of our city's rich, multicultural history - our events will always be safe, inclusive spaces, no matter your race or religion ❤️

It’s been shamefully lost in the violence and chaos we’ve seen across the country in recent days, but Southport is a community in mourning. Beautiful pictures from tonight’s vigil in the town from @snapperlane

Remember when Gary Lineker said the language on immigration from politicians resembles 1930s Germany? Remember the uproar because it was an absurd comparison apparently?

A reminder After the Aug 2011 riots, police & my prosecutors examined all the video evidence for MONTHS identifying & bringing offenders to justice - 1000s of them Some didn’t get arrested till a year later! Prison was the usual sentence My boss was someone called Keir Starmer

That hotel in Rotherham is not housing illegal migrants. It is housing asylum seekers. People who have fled from danger hoping the UK would be a place of safety, and are now surrounded by murderous thugs trying to burn them alive. Get it right, journalists. Tell the truth.

This week’s riots aren’t happening in a vacuum. We’re living and breathing on platforms that billionaires have optimised for outrage. This is the world that social media made. My piece for @ObserverUK with contributions from the great @mariaressa + more theguardian.com/media/article/…

Can you now see why Coutts felt Nigel Farage was too toxic as a customer and declined to continue his account? That their CEO was forced to resign after his grandstanding was and is an absolute disgrace. That bank saw him for exactly who he is. #FarageDoesNotSpeakForMe

It could be embarrassing and enlightening for Nigel Farage if #FarageDoesNotSpeakForMe went viral and everyone who he does not speak for liked and retweeted it.

I have never forgotten telling man after man in cell after cell how long they would get in prison for the 2011 London riots. Once enthusiasm for lobbing bins at police has waned, once your pals have been arrested, once the booze & adrenaline subside - you realise. Then regret.

The Nans Against Nazis pic from Liverpool reminds me of the brilliant ‘woman with the handbag’ statue in Sweden. It commemorates the moment Danuta Danielsson hit a neonazi with her handbag. Danielsson’s mother had been in a concentration camp. This is what statues are for, surely

The arsonists last night destroyed a Citizens Advice Bureau. For those outside the UK, that's a place where the British public, particularly low income or disadvantaged communities, get free legal advice and support. Staff are devastated. "We're protecting our community"

Noah Bush, 8 years old, was found drowned in Jesup, Georgia in May 2024. He went out to play with neighborhood kids & never came home. After finding his body in a small body of water the sheriff’s office immediately announced it was accidental & for two months they did nothing.

The children that died are girls, the teachers that were stabbed are women, the perpetrator is a young man, and still the media looks for a motive. As if the Montréal massacre and everything else in between never happened, and as if we never learned anything from femicide and murderous men:
