The concept of a film made by two "artists" with infamous workplace practices who hate communists and love the imperial project of the US to a ridiculous degree being deserving of winning awards simply for vague gestures of "hope".
I do not understand the mind of a liberal.

consider the fact that i want PHM to win at the oscars not because i think it’s better than its contenders in every way, but because it gave everyone hope in an increasingly hopeless world. no other film has managed to do that this year

The context that Phil Lord is conveniently hiding is that he is the scion of the same bourgeois class being criticized in Memories of Underdevelopment and I Am Cuba Phil, your great grandfather fought for Cuba's independence only to turn around and sell it to the US

At least for me, I think most of my criticisms of him have simply gotten more refined over time. I think he's capable of making good films but I largely hate his artistic vision and don't find myself in love with a lot of what he does. I don't think its fair to say its a "phase"

Every baby cinephile goes through their "Nolan is overrated" phase thinking it'll make them look more sophisticated and discerning than 'the normies' but I'm glad I grew out of it. One of our greats, with a deep love not just for cinema but for 'the movies' and what they mean.

Nolan is both frustrated and enamored by modern society and the spaces within it, desiring to both merge with it and yet also to usurp it. Its ending amounts to his most successful attempt at remedying this (accepting a place within modernity while having faux agency)

It's perhaps the first film where Nolan's obsession with contemporary structures and aesthetics has amounted to a feature rather than a flaw of the work.

Rewatching tenet and I’m reminded that the Trucks In Place sequence is maybe the best of Nolan’s career, for me. The score here is immaculate.
