Au-delà du débat institutionnel, la réforme ravive une autre réalité : les luttes internes au sommet de l’État. Car derrière la création d’une vice-présidence se dessine, en creux, la question du successeur. lepoint.fr/afrique/un-cou… #cameroun

Cameroon was initially against the agreement and likened it to “blackmail.” The government later came around, reasoning that the deal might eventually encourage the U.S. to repatriate Cameroonian dissidents & separatists who had fled to America. nytimes.com/2026/03/25/wor…

There is a striking epidemiological shift underway here in Cameroon and across much of Africa: People now face as much risk of dying from a noncommunicable disease such as diabetes as they do an infectious one, such as malaria. nytimes.com/2026/03/23/hea…

Today, 19 March, the Supreme Court of Cameroon quashed the judgment of the Court of Appeal that had sentenced Sisiku Ayuk Tabe Julius and ten (10) others to life imprisonment. The Criminal Bench of the Judicial Division of the Supreme Court delivered its ruling in the appeal brought against the judgment of the Court of Appeal of the Centre Region by Sisiku Ayuk Tabe Julius and nine (9) others, popularly known as the “NERA 10.” The name refers to the Nera Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria, from where they were allegedly abducted and brought to Cameroon to stand trial. By way of background, in its initial judgment of 20 August 2019, the Yaoundé Military Tribunal found the appellants guilty of secession, terrorism, and hostility against the state, among other charges. In addition to life sentences, the tribunal imposed substantial financial penalties, including a joint civil award of 250 billion FCFA and an additional 12 billion FCFA in costs. On appeal, the Court of Appeal of the Centre Region upheld the life sentences in September 2020. In today’s decision—delivered under the presidency of internationally renowned Justice Marie Louise Abomo—the Supreme Court did not examine the grounds advanced by counsel for the appellants. Instead, it raised an issue suo moto (on its own initiative) and, on that basis, quashed the decision of the Court of Appeal of the Centre Region. The matter has been remitted to the same Court of Appeal, sitting with a differently constituted panel, to be reheard de novo. By quashing the appellate decision and ordering a fresh hearing, the Supreme Court has effectively acknowledged that serious injustice tainted the proceedings before the Court of Appeal of Centre Region.

The Gulf of Guinea is currently the second-most affected region worldwide for #maritime piracy – and Cameroon's coastline is at the centre. While kidnappings are down, criminal flows like extortion and illegal taxation are up – sustaining pirate economies. New ISS report by Raoul Sumo Tayo. issafrica.org/research/books…
