Indeed a slap to democracy. I remember a conversation I had with a student who asked if studying criminal justice is worth it because of police brutality and its unchecked practices?

The irony of life. I taught my students today about crimes committed by the government/police, such as breach of civil liberties. Meanwhile, back in Nigeria, innocent youth are being killed by armed enforcement officers for peacefully protesting to end police brutality.

We owe it to ourselves to empower people and not just hoard knowledge. A lot has changed since one year and I am thankful for the significant impact of the past year in my career. Hard work indeed pays, so never give up.

This year, I also remember sitting in a room as an ACJS Doctoral Fellow and learning so much about the industry route from experts who have received their PhDs and pursuing industry track opportunities. It feels really fulfilling to be able to pour back to the 2019 MSI Fellows.
