This!!! We desperately need more respect for, and investment in data platforms and management if we are to be able to make evidence based decisions and learn from the outcomes at the speed we need to for climate adaptation.
Ben Goldacre@bengoldacre

@brianmackenna @BennettOxford @NHSEngland Personally, having worked on all parts of the data pipeline, I think this invisible middle layer - the platform, the data management, the DQ, the documentation - is the hardest job. It’s the hardest to do well. It’s the newest as a professional space.

Colin has found *most* of a Roman pot in the long curving ditch that runs through the middle of our dig at @earth_trust. We think it could be Black Burnished Ware - a type of pottery where the outside of the pot is polished using a hard surface. Nice!

Spot the Roman villa! We've just started digging at @EarthTrust next to Wittenham Clumps hillfort in Oxfordshire and can already see some great archaeology. 160 adults and children will dig with us over the next 2 weeks. we can't wait to share our discoveries with you!

Lara found a bone needle on our dig at @EarthTrust. It's got a point at both ends, and a hole in the middle. But what was it for?! Sewing? knitting? weaving baskets? or something else entirely? We'd love to hear your thoughts 🪡 #archaeology #findsfriday

A very special replica made for us by the fantastic John Martin (People, Pots and Places). Hopefully we can take it to visit its findspot this summer @TheDigVenturers

#ARCHAEOLOGY GUESSING GAME!! Our Pastronauts found something interesting while searching #LiDAR maps for lost archaeological features late last year. Can you guess what this might be? Serious suggestions and silly guesses are welcome!

Happy #FindsFriday! This rare glass gaming piece was on #Lindisfarne – the tiny Northumbrian island whose wealthy early medieval monastery was infamously raided by #Vikings in AD 793. Made of blue glass with white swirls, this gaming piece was likely to have been a kingpiece.

In the past, life was ‘nasty, brutish and short’ and people rarely lived beyond the age of 40. It’s time to call out that nonsense, because it’s simply not true. digventures.com/2018/02/no-its…
