I spent a career recruiting spies and running operations for the United States government. I know how myths are built, how facts are selected, and how the story you’re told is never the complete one. That’s what I write about now — applied to the country I served. The framework is called WAPFA: “Which Americans Pay for America?” WAPFA is a fiscal and legal lens, not a party. Two ledgers, one question beneath every major political fight: -Who actually pays? -Who actually receives? -Who controls the story about both? Urban centers and rural regions each carry real grievances. Both sides select real facts. Both sides omit the ones that complicate their myth. WAPFA doesn’t pick a side. It shows you the ledger. Virginia did not enact a state-level exemption or deduction mirroring the federal “no tax on tips” policy during the 2026 legislative session under Spanberger. Taxes on tips, therefore, continue in the Commonwealth of VA.

Don Bacon (R-NE-2) Omaha’s elder-care system faces acute staffing shortages. Local providers warned TPS healthcare workers were essential to avoid deeper patient-care disruption. Bacon, retiring in 2026, framed his vote around direct provider input. Politically, it also fits an open NE-2 race where moderation could help Republicans hold suburban voters.

Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1) Bucks County and Pennsylvania face major nursing and home-health shortages. Fitzpatrick was one of the first four Republicans to sign the discharge petition, consistent with his moderate record. In a top-tier swing seat, the vote helps protect his independent brand with suburban voters.

Why These Republicans Broke Ranks on Haiti TPS No foreign pressure. No hidden hand. This was local politics: business groups, care providers, unions, and Haitian-American advocates pushing Republicans in districts where labor shortages and voter math made the issue impossible to ignore.

In many cases, the effort to not be LDS becomes so intense that people turn into the extreme inverse of LDS culture. Instead of forming an independent identity, they build one in opposition. I think the term for that is counter-identification—defining yourself by being the opposite of what you reject.
