A history lesson about Las Malvinas for all the trolls: Britain first occupied the islands in 1765 but were kicked out by the Spanish a few years later. Then in 1833 it took the islands by military force from Argentina which had inherited Spain’s claim after independence a few decades earlier and had established authority on the islands. Given their geographical proximity to Argentina this was not surprising. How do you think Britain would feel if a foreign nation 8,000 miles away took the Isle of Wight by military force and established settlers on it? Britain argues that the settlers it established on Las Malvinas want to stay British. But frankly why should their opinion count when they are living on occupied land? The honourable thing to do would be to just give the islands back to the Argentinians. But I really can't remember the last time Britain did the honourable thing.

Las Malvinas deben ser argentinas porque eran parte del Virreinato del Río de la Plata, de la misma manera el Chaco, la Pampa, la Patagonia, la Estepa y Tierra de Fuego deben ser descolonizadas y entregadas a sus pobladores originarios, ya que no formaban parte del Virreinato.

Cuánta confusión que leo de gente que opina de Malvinas en nombre de los derechos de la población. Primera aclaración: la soberanía no es derecho de propiedad. Y si lo fuera sería comunismo, porque es colectiva. La soberanía no se dirime en el ámbito del derecho civil, sino del derecho político e internacional. Segunda: los derechos de propiedad de la población no están en juego. Sus derechos políticos tampoco, porque a todos los efectos tienen derecho a la ciudadanía argentina reconocido. Y en términos de derecho internacional no se puede convalidar, o habría que pedirle perdón a Putin, que un país invada y después alegue derechos sobre el territorio basándose en los derechos de la población. En 1833, los británicos desalojaron al gobierno y a la población civil local, violando todos sus derechos, incluidos los de propiedad, aprovechando la ausencia temporal del gobernador Vernet. Ese vicio es insalvable. El tiempo transcurrido no lo cambia y nadie ha invocado siquiera l tiempo como factor. Si rigiera el principio de que invado, implanto población y en nombre de la autodeterminación me lo quedo, sería un salvajismo total. La guerra perdida es una situación de hecho. No hay tratado que ceda la soberanía. Eso es, jurídicamente, todo el asunto. Después habrá que negociar lo que se pueda, pero es otro cantar. Hay que dejar de chupar ingleses por dos años.
