The Tokyo Trials, which took place from May 3, 1946, to November 12, 1948, were run by an international tribunal, prosecuting Japanese Class-A war criminals for crimes against peace, conventional war crimes, and crimes against humanity during World War II.
The tribunal held 818 court sessions, heard testimony from 419 witnesses, examined 4,336 pieces of evidence, and produced more than 48,000 pages of trial records. Judges and prosecutors from 11 countries, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union, participated, with all 25 defendants convicted.
Eighty years later, the trials endure as both a testament to justice and a solemn warning from history.
