No hand-holding, pure discovery, real player-driven progression… meanwhile most AAA games still design around markers and checklists. Ragnarok perfected a formula. Elden Ring challenged it.

The interesting part isn’t the graphics. It’s that they clearly know what had to be modernized. New Anvil tech, reworked water, parry-focused combat, freer stealth, deeper naval systems… plus Matt Ryan back and Darby McDevitt writing new material. this feels less like a remake… more like the definitive Black Flag.

Housemarque already proved with Returnal that they can carry moment-to-moment gameplay better than most studios. but Saros looks like they’re pushing into narrative and progression way harder this time. that’s where it gets interesting… because mixing roguelike structure with long-term storytelling isn’t easy at all.

Elden Ring didn’t raise the bar for everyone… it just made people expect more from everyone. big difference.

If we’re talking best, it has to be something that feels like a full expansion, not just extra content. The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine is still the benchmark for me—new region, new systems, almost a standalone game. but you can’t ignore Bloodborne: The Old Hunters either… some of the best boss design FromSoft has ever done.

What is the best DLC in gaming history?

@GermanStrands Lies of P is great… but I still think people underrate how much Nioh 2 and even Remnant 2 brought to the genre. feels like people just remember the most recent one.

Lies of P is still the best non-FromSoftware Soulslike. DLC is also amazing.
