Can we stop referring to artists as emerging. Most of the artists here have been here. They’ve emerged. I find the word a bit minimising personally and I think language is super important. Idk.

@dimithryv i mean most Black artists who can do art full time do figuration or make work about using Black suffering as material. idk “hardwork” doesnt pay off for most so you say you work hard is kind of irrelevant

the work isnt bad but be honest: you can be a full time artist because you do Black figuration that doesnt make nonblack people too uncomfortable and if you were doing mostly abstract art, you would have to go to certain schools to be able to finesse ‘full time artist’

@musicnotes_pdf Nah it ain’t that easy. I faced rejection often because of my style of work for years, I barely get grants, my work isn’t exhibited as much as my peers. I’m a full time artist because I’ve spent YEARS building a network and an audience who likes my work
