@Willful_long Exactly, sometimes you gotta prove yourself so these studios will fund your ideas. If Nolan didn’t make The Dark Knight trilogy a box office hit we’d never get films like Interstellar or The Odyssey

@dimithryv I’d also argue making something good out of a big budget think you’re probably not too fond of is also a skill of a great filmmaker. Look at what Nolan did with the Dark Knight trilogy even tho I’m sure he’s not the biggest batman fan on the block.

That is a career. Every creative has to do gigs or jobs to fund their passion projects. It just looks different at certain levels

@dimithryv The painting for the poster for "The Thing" was so fresh that the paint stuck to the glass plate that held it in place when they photographed it.

Commercial work be having such crazy deadlines, they must’ve been making insane work like this in a few days 😭

@dimithryv I recently was talking to a creative director, and he said back in the early 2000s some artists would end up sleeping at the office, and one guy even sold his house to live at office due to how demanding the work was.

Denis Villeneuve spent his 20's making no budget films and the occasional music video. And in 30's, after getting the chance to finally direct a pair of feature films, they still didn't give him the success, or come out the way he hoped for. So he took a near decade long break from film to raise his family and considered to quit filmmaking entirely, but despite being in his 40's he decided to give it another shot after watching a play, which he then adapated & directed and turned into Incendies which earned him an Academy Award in 2011, and put him on the map. He then went onto make Enemy, Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049 and at 58 years old is now set to wrap him his epic Dune trilogy. Truly one of the more inspiring and beautiful stories in Hollywood, never give up on your dreams.
