Survival is “almost impossible” for Sudanese fighters in Russia
An Ayin investigation exposes how Sudanese youth are being recruited to fight in the Russian army under false promises of pay and citizenship. Recruiters told Ayin that only 15% of those enlisted actually reach the battlefield, while the risk of death or injury reaches 80%, with no option to withdraw once contracts are signed.
Young men, driven by war, unemployment, and family hardship, are lured via Facebook posts and middlemen, issued tourist visas, and pushed into military contracts they barely understand. Some are coerced inside detention centres; others hide the truth from their families, claiming civilian jobs.
What begins as a search for survival turns into a one-way path to the front lines of another war.
