In conclusion, the 6-7 meme, by its enduring nature, forces us to question what is happening. Throughout our psychological discussion, we found that the trend reveals an unsettling insight: humanity is being collectively initiated out of the 6 (man as defined by its own limited perception) into the 7 (man inside a self-based initiation) while being evaluated in the process. Initiation is never harmless. It can be downright deadly when it is done on the basis of a standard that is not one shared by ego-consciousness. To be dragged into selfhood means to renounce the supremacy of the ego without losing one’s identity in the process. This means that the traversal of the extremely complex landscape of the modern world (both inner and outer) is decided at the individual level from the unconscious standpoint: what might work for the ego can be toxic for the unconscious, and the reverse is also true. The secret whispers of the unconscious can hint at a direction that is experienced by ego-consciousness as an unacceptable leap of faith. The path ahead is an individual one. This isn’t a groundbreaking insight, and yet this time the compass does not belong to consciousness but to the self. Thus no external framework, no imitative method, no copying of other people’s journeys, and no foreign spirit other than ours will be able to answer the deepest questions of one’s existence and the reasons for suffering through it all. This is not about reinventing the wheel at each moment, rather it means that the deciding factor on what tools to use or what actions to take is ultimately decided inwards, beneath the threshold of ego-consciousness. In apocalyptic times, people will look everywhere to find a way out but where they should: in the recesses of their innermost existence. Returning to our 6-7 meme, we still have one last symbol to discuss, which is the balancing gesture that accompanies it. The psychic content this time is not spiritual but material, that is, the psyche expresses itself in matter, not in spirit. From the discussion so far, we’ve noticed an important gap between 6 and 7. In Louis K Nicholas III’s words, it is a relinquishing of man in front of God. In psychological language, egohood must concede its autonomy for the realisation of the self on its own terms. This transition appears to be accompanied by a weighing of the left hand against the right, as if something was being put on a scale and evaluated. Not unlike the Ancient Egyptian practice of weighing the soul on a scale, the 6 is evaluated against the 7.
