Loved diving in with @FilArons on his journey as a repeat founder, engineer at Northrop Grumman, and now CEO at @DiracInc. Dirac bridges assembly design to manufacturability for companies like Anduril and Siemens. @rachtsui and I are proud to to have them in The Council portfolio! 00:00 Introduction 02:35 The Journey into Engineering and Hard Problems 05:27 The Birth of Dirac: From Aerospace to Software 08:11 Addressing the Opioid Crisis: A Personal Story 10:43 Deciding What to Build: Timing and Passion 12:58 Navigating Hardware and Software Challenges 15:32 The Day-to-Day of Tackling Hard Problems 18:31 Manufacturers' Willingness to Innovate 22:57 Building Trust in Complex Industries 24:58 Embracing Risk in Entrepreneurship 26:39 The Assembly Company: Dirac's Unique Approach 31:48 Reintegrating American Manufacturing 36:24 Defining Success and Milestones at Dirac 38:14 Rapid Fire Insights: Leadership and Innovation

Fun fact: @mttgrmm has to order special hats because his head is too big for anything you can buy off the rack. This is true both figuratively and literally. Also, very excited about the special partnership between @DiracInc and @anduriltech.

.“One of the most unexpected outcomes of working with Dirac: it’s accelerated our sales.” — Matt Grimm, Cofounder & COO, @AndurilTech Anduril is now pitching Dirac directly to the Navy & Air Force as part of how modern systems get designed, manufactured, and fielded faster. With Dirac, manufacturing software stops being internal tooling and becomes a strategic advantage. @FilArons @mttgrmm @tbpn

.We're super excited to be working with @AndurilTech. Automated work instructions aren’t a defense-only problem, however. Aerospace. Automotive. Shipbuilding. Ag. Construction. Maritime. And more. If you build complex products, your factory runs on work instructions. When those instructions take weeks to create, operators end up working from outdated info. Always a pleasure to have @FilArons on @TBPN.

You need to get equity in @DiracInc if you still can Just my two cents

Dirac CEO @FilArons warns that modular designs have created thousands of product variants - and thousands of work instructions that are difficult to maintain and increasingly rely on workers nearing retirement age: "We've seen 15-20 years of an explosion in excellent software on the design side. And because CAD is so advanced, we've seen an explosion in the variance that people can design." "A company like Anduril has modular products that have different payloads that are reconfigurable. From a design perspective, great - we can swap out a bunch of different modules. From a manufacturing perspective, when you have thousands of different combinations of things, you now need thousands of different work instructions where, if one picture is off and one step is off, you have somebody building a completely different thing." "They're in deep trouble when they lose the folks on their shop floor that are 30-year veterans who just know off the back of their heads, 'I remember how we built this last time, I don't really need instructions.'" "Because all those folks are also retiring, our entire industrial base and our supplier base are also at risk because we haven't codified all of that tribal knowledge."

Anduril's seen "wild improvements" in the time it takes to go from a CAD model to factory work instructions since implementing @diracInc's BuildOS platform, says @mttgrmm. It's reduced the process from 12 hours to 90 minutes - shaving off 87.5% of the time it took previously.

.“With BuildOS implemented, we've seen pretty wild, wild improvements in the time that it takes to go from that CAD model to that work instruction for the factory floor." –– @mttgrmm, Cofounder & COO of @AndurilTech Cofounder & CEO of @DiracInc @FilArons describes the 87.5% reduction in time to generate factory-ready work instructions from CAD. This is what modern manufacturing looks like and how you win on the factory floor. Thank you @tbpn for this insightful conversation.
